Hello fellow Hambers, I recently purchased a one ton 55 Ford and was thinking of making it into a custom one ton with the original drive-train. The plan was to fabricate rear fenders to accommodate the dual wheel's. This would mean I would have to widen the fenders 6 inches. The bed is off a 3/4 ton truck so I am going to have to shorten the wheel base to fit the bed. My question is: Should I continue with the plan of a custom, really low 55 one ton? Or should I convert the truck into a 1/2 ton model? I thought I would ask and see what everyone thought would be a cool way to go. The truck as of now has the original drive train, Y-block V8, 4 speed, and it run's and drives.
I'd think the best route would be to shorten it to fit the bed & widen the fenders like you said, but leave it stock height. A factory looking 1 ton dually w a regular stepside long bed.
I would suggest widening the bed a little, then the fenders might be proportioned better these fenders look a little to wide
I have it right now about 6 inches from ground to front bumper height in front and the rear is approximately 12 inches from ground to frame height. to go any lower in the front I would have to purchase a new dropped axle to get lower and the rear would need to be "C" channeled to get any lower. The plan was to make it a low buck cruiser.
how did you drop the front? got any pics of the truck? so far I've got my bus on the ground pretty cheap
Well so far Anthony I took out 1/2 the leaf ' s in the front springs and about 1/3 to 1/2 on the rear. Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
I wasn't planning on hauling anything with it in the future. Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
