I am curiuos to see, has anyone tried using a flattening agent over a flake paint job? I am thinking of doing that with my bike, but I have never ever seen anyone do something like that. Has anyone ever seen or heard of anyone doing this? If you have anypics, please post them.

If you're gonna be loadin up the clear to "smooth" out bumpy flake, you might as well just cut regular clear down and finish with 2000. Won't quite be the same as flattened clear, but it will be smooth and not shiney.

I wonder what that would look like? One of those old motorcycle helmets from the 70's without the shine?

Yeah I had a thought about it a few months ago,but never really have done anything so far. My friend just did a pearl with pearl with candy and flattening over it and it came out pretty cool. Just curiuos to see how bigger flakes would look...

Flake really likes to shine. I dont know how good it would look flat.

If the light can't get through a shiny surface, the flake won't sparkle much.

it will look milked out and not have the same look. if you are going to do the work to flake it make it shinny. most metalics look like **** when done with flattened clear.

Funny you should ask, I just happen to have some pics.:)
If the look you are after is a dull kinda sparkly finish thats what you will get.
Not much shows through(second pic to right, no clear), just did this old helmet with the BIG Sem flake.
You can see even with bright light on it to take the picture not much shows. John

my wifes catalina has silver mini flake scalops (see pics in my intro) that are suede. it was done with out a flatning clear.it was done with sg 100 (H of K).the flake to clear mix ratio was just enuff clear to make the flake stick.it worked because it was mini flake

As in one of the biker build off shows when indian larry's paint guy stripped the clear to add more graphix, you couldn't tell it was flake til the clear was back on...
