Can someone please explain to me why there are so many different STYLES of Fender Skirts for the 49-51 Ford? I am not interested in personal preferences (who likes what more) Just info as to what fits what, or why are there some that are ribbed (3 ribs) and ones that have a "line" across the front edge, some that are smooth, etc. I realize that Foxcraft styles are different than others. Did Ford have ANY that were truly OEM? or are they all aftermarket accessories. Any help would be appreciated Thanks Karen
The Ford accessory ones were the 3 rib ones , with a cut-up at the bottom . The full height ones were aftermarket (made to look like cut-down 51 Mercury skirts (which was popular to do back in the day) . I have also seen 2-rib aftermarket skirts as well (only saw 1 set) .
Also "cruiser skirts" or often called "bubble skirts" that mounted well beyond (fore and aft) of the wheel opening. Junior Conway car with cruiser or bubble skirt: Our own @Royalshifter 's Royal Victoria with Foxcraft skirts: And the ubiquitous ribbed skirt (that I personally never cared for): Don't know if that helps. Most custom guys like Foxcraft, Kustom guys like cruisers and restorers like it ribbed...
I should say that @Royalshifter EXTENSIVELY reworked those Foxcraft skirts to get them to fit that nice. Most of us aren't so ambitious and just stick 'em on, maybe tweak them a little for a better fit.
I guess I could've pimped my ride before , but here she is with Foxcraft (cut-down Merc style) skirts on it - to compare with RoyalShifter's car . **EDIT** - Damn my ride sure is ugly in all those colors ! She sure will look better at least in all one color PRIMER , LOL !!
