My wife and I took a cruise to Huntington Beach in Oct. '14 to attend El Mirage on Oct. 19. Both of us appreciate the first generation of rock n roll and like to ride in the '32 Highboy. Yes, I am very lucky. We happened to hear about the California Hot Rod Reunion taking place in Bakersfield at Famoso Drag Raceway, and had a blast. Rick Barakat of Eastwood/Barakat '32 Deuce sedan fame took me to lunch with Bobby Walden, his wife, and Bobby's fabricator Joey. Had a great time bench-racing. I tried to stay up with Rick in my roadster, but he lost me quickly. Also visited the Early Ford Store in San Dimas and SoCal Speed Shop very near. On the w back home, we jumped up to Hwy 210, which was part of the original Rte. 66 to Barstow, Needles, and Kingman, Az. Just outside of Kingman, we picked up about 70 miles of the real Rte. 66, coming badck into I 40 at Seligman, Az. We started running out of time, so cruised on to Winslow, Az. and the "standing on the corner in Winslow, Az." intersection with the flatbed Ford and the tribute to the Eagles band. Their music can be heard from across the street coming from a T-shirt shop. This kind of stuff is just fun to us (we don't get out much). To make a long story not quite sooo long, we headed home to San Antonio, satisfied that our trip was was a success. We plan to attend the L.A. Roadster Show in June, in the roadster, of course. Great time for 2 oldies.

  6. That's why Ford put wheels on them, so you could drive them.

I am ready for another long trip after the snow goes away for the year but I will doubt it will happen this year,I am a member of the Crown Victoria ***ociation and they are having the convention in my town this year so I will attend. Its a long 4 miles from the house at the most so this year might be full of shorter trips but if gas stays low Myrtle Beach might happen but will be a last minute decision,I put most of the cost of the Daytona trip on the credit card since it was a last minute decision and need to pay it off before another long trip if I can not find someone to come along and share expenses.

I am going to try to make it,I have one week of my vacation spoken for in august and this would take my last week and then no more for the rest of the year. Next year I will have 3 weeks if I stay and the company still is around.

Friends and I are in the beginning stages of planning our trip to Pueblo for the NSRA show this June. We will be doing stretches of RT. 66 with stops in Roswell, and Durango. On our return trip stopping at Speedway and Goodguys Des Moines. The memories my wife and I make on these trips are priceless and I wouldn't trade them for anything.

No cell phone??!!! Now THAT'S old school!! :) I've done lots of road trips in my 40 over the years, but I did my big road trip last summer, from the Atlantic to the Pacific and back, just under 6000 miles. Can't wait to do it again! :)

I had a 41' Ford pickup a couple years ago, and drove both ways from Oregon to the Texas Panhandle....it was quite a trip, and got so many waves and horn toots that it was causing traffic to swerve at times:confused:....I loved it, and it was so much fun! No A/C....windows open and cowl vent open at all times (gotta carry extra water in desert!). Other than the radiator hose creating huge weakness bubble in the curve of one hose, in that vast desert of the Nevada/Arizona stretch ( which I duct-taped tight till I could make it to the next town)...and the battery-quit-charging...it was a blast! That old flathead and Columbian 2-speed rearend made it 'interesting'....engine tended to overheat at one point because it was so hot, and the door developed ''a rattle'' which eventually drove me nuts towards the end (just turned the radio up louder).... it was a great trip and I support road-trips heartily....people gotta see em' to remember them, and they always bring fantastic smiles when they p*** in the 'fast' lane:)
