Just wondered what the younger guys over there are into driving /building.I,m in England and most of the youngsters are into the hothatch scene here, bolting bits of fibre glass onto small Fords & Jap cars and stuffing them full of giant sound systems. All is not lost there are a few who are into building hotrods but not many. Here,s a couple pictures of my son,s 58 Anglia, everything except the driveshaft for the blower was made in our garage.(He,s on the lookout for a model A coupe for his next project.)
Well I geuss I am considered young haha I'm 21 and have a 27 modified. But don't talk about it too much on here because I'm not building the frame for it. I can't weld good enough to have it on the road safely so I'm farmimg that out but after we get it rolling shes all mine to finish. It's got a flathead and a 3 speed torque tube to the banjo rear. All steel body minus the bondo! By some wheeling and dealing of a dear friend I have an amazing set of doors for it now too. Wheel vintiques steel wheels. A Leadsledolds shift knob. I'm looking for a steering wheel for it but can't find one I like. What else do you want to know? just ask. Going for this kinda look.
haha I've been on night's so I'm awake. Me and Grant are gonna start selling up the suspention very soon. I'm going over there sometime today if he's not to busy with all the other stuff he has in his little shop. If I get over there I'll take some pics with my crappy cell phone and post them. And what are you doing up now? hahaha
Well ya know...I work nights too...and days...and nights....and days....and.uhh..you get the picture(no pun intended) Say Hi to your dad for me!
Man I know how hard you work but it's your own fault for making it look so easy. I sure will tell him. haha Now I really am going to bed.
Well, I'm into the hotsna... Oh forget it, too easy. Good to see real homebuilt hotrodding is alive around the world.
hey im 14 and i am building a 66 gmc most kids in canada are into ricers but there are a few out there like me that are into old cars
I've been concerned about kids today and keeping the traditions alive, so I decided to get off my ass and do something. I work for a car manufacturer, and after attending my son's auto shop open house, I realized the school needed help... badly! I emailed a few people and got the school a couple engines and trannies for them to tear down and learn from. If they need stands, I'm off to Harbor freight to buy a few. I even arranged for them to get a new car to use for diagnostics, but they had to decline. The department has been downsized to the point where there was no room to store the car and if it sat outside, it would be vandalized or stolen. I'm working with the instructor to bring the roadster or the 68 down for the students to see..... try to generate some interest, ya know. I'm doing whatever I can to build some interest and get new blood in the hobby before it dies. I would strongly suggest that everyone contact your local high school and do whatever you can to promote the industry and our hobby. THIS is where the next generation of rodder is folks....... how much easier and inexpensive can it be to show the kids how much fun it can be?
Automotivestud,The engine is a Ford 4 pot ,was originaly 1600cc now bored out to 1700,the blower was originaly designed for a crane ,it was over 30 years old and we found it unused and in its original box cost £40 about $65 -$70,it runs 10lb of boost and really scoots,I,ve had blowers on my rods before but have never heard anything scream like this thing does.We had to use a small engine because of the insurance. Next ones having a blown 331 Hemi
I guess I'm still young. I'm 23 and have a Model A that's a daily driver. I'm in the middle of building a 52 Ford F1.
Hmmm... I'm 27, does that qualify as young? The other day I was at the gas station with my 63 nova. An older guy walked over to me and said: 'whats a young kid like you doing drivin a car like that?' I replied, 'it's what I like, so it's what I bought.' he says 'your dad must like old cars, that's why you like 'em.' I replied - 'no sir. he didn't think it was a good idea to buy it' I've been interested in old cars since I was about 15 or so, but living in New England made it hard to find anything that was in good shape and that I could afford. Moved to southern california a while back and have gone a bit car crazy. I have a 63 nova, 65 nova, and a 70 c-10 that are all running inline sixes. Problem is, don't know anyone out here, so no one to show me how to work on them - I end up posting all of my dumb questions online and trying to get help that way. Currently replacing the 292 in my truck with a rebuilt one - doesn't sound like a big deal, but it is a bit overwhelming for someone that doesn't have much experience working on vehicles.
NICE! I love that look, my Model A is fendered as well, gotta love those lines. How young is "young"? I'm 26, does that count? I've always been into hot rods, but am into other vehicles as well- four wheelers, motorcycles, even a '92 Mazda sedan. hey, it's rear drive at least! Not that I would ever choose those over hot rods but I'm into anything, and if we can keep the younger generation into some sort of mechanics then at least that's something. I just wish there were more guys into rods when I was in school, I was one of three- my brother and our friend. That's it
Hey Junkyard, that's very cool. To me that's what Hot Rods' are all about, using what you have available and making it go fast!! 27T I think you've got a cool ride as well - good to see young guys in the hobby with the 'old stuff'
There are a handful of young hot rodders in cental valley I'm 22 and own a 63 ford country sedan (driver), 63 lincoln continental, 47 gmc on S-10 frame (for sale), 30/31 brookville roadster on deuce frame. My girl Meredith 21 owns a 55 packard clipper. and My boy Eli (elwood blues) who is 24 owns a badass 59 chevy truck. the scene isnt dying in my eyes just changing. Jared
I am 13 and am building a 1953 Chevy 210 sedan. Most kids my age cant wait to get their first Escalades and put spinners on it.
2 cars that i have been building, my 48 huson and my 39 chevy pickup (yes even i think its too far out of the box, but its fun to drive) also starting an original 1930 right hand drive model A sedan.
We've been getting one of the guys at our club to bring his 14 year old son out to club nights to learn what cars are supposed to look and sound like. He's slowly getting away from the tuners and is starting to learn some pinstriping. Flatman
