Hello, I am wanting to replace a single ford master cylinder with a dual. The single cylinder I currently have is part #91A-2140. From looking up this part it appears as if it was used on most ford cars from 40-52 and trucks 39-48. I still have drums front and back. I just want to have the safety of the dual cylinder in case a line or wheel cylinder fails. Is there a bolt on replacement? I understand I will have to redo the lines. Thanks, Vern
^^^what he said--anywehere from 65-72 will work disc/drum or drum/drum. chassis engineering and several other folks make a cheapish bold on adapter, although it's pretty simple and you could make your own.
The Ford master cylinders have nice interchange. I had a '63 Ford Unibody a few years ago and upgraded to a dual master cylinder from a late-60's Mustang. There are really two things to check when doing a swap: 1) Make sure your brake types match. e.g.: If your car is drum/drum, get a drum/drum replacement master. If it's disc/drum then get disc/drum. 2) Match your bore sizing. Your current master is a 1 1/16" bore, so look for that in your replacement master to keep a similar pedal feel. Hope that helps!
