Last week I asked the HAMB about a few machine shop items, just to get some inside info. Well, this is the follow up. Had a very good day... didn't get everything, but got quite a lot. 1st - i consider this the score of the day... i picked up a single phase 220v Dayton Arc welder for $50 with slag hammer, cart and 3 masks (not auto darkening but hey) 2nd) - 8" Dayton grinder with very large motor on a dedicated stand 3rd) - Enco Drill Press (really wanted the rockwell but that went WAY to high) 4th) - Delta vertical ban saw 5th) - 20 ton Hydraulic Jack. This one is like a pallet jack but a little different. I am often working on pinball machines so i am going to outfit it for that function. 6th) - 2 sets of industrial shelves. ... this kicker is after the auction was over the guy told me to go through all the old tools and take whatever i wanted. Got a few nice grease guns, about 100 or so really nice drill bits for the drill press and 3 Martin wrenches (not sure about these, found them at sears for $855... which made my head exploded). Grabbed a really nice wall of lockers also (it forms like an upside down U with a bar in the middle for shirts and whatnot) For the whole lot i ended up dropping $575 - my garage is finally starting to take shape into an actual metal working rod shop.
i have to say of all the stuff the Martin Wrenches have me completely baffled. I have seen these listed anywhere from $855 to $325 and a few other places for $65. So what the heck are they? I am all for quality tools but $855?
also, if anyone has any good tips and tricks for cleaning the equipment please feel free to p*** it along. I will be doing a maintenance/cleaning of each machine. Not trying to make them like show quality... just giving them a good once over. I have heard everything from pressure washing them to wiping down with WD40. I thought using a decent degreaser (that purple ****) and a bunch of elbow grease would be the best way but i am ALWAYS open to suggestion.
