Hi, Does anyone know someone who could make or someone that sells baffles to fit a 2inch to 4 inch Magaphone exhaust pipe? Thanks Karl
Google "Car Chemistry Automotive products" they sell baffle kits and individual components. I've made my own as well as using part of the internals of cherry bomb mufflers. They both did an adaquate job.
Cut a gl***pac in half, shove each piece in a megaphone, drill hole in bottom for a set screw, finished the end for looks and go for a ride...
Try these... http://www.speedwaymotors.com/Speedway-Auger-Style-Muffler,1736.html I run them in the t-bucket side pipes.
I was curious about baffles too a while back so did a search and found this tech article on how to make your own... http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/...o-lake-style-header-baffle-lots-o-pics.43062/ I have it bookmarked for future reference, perhaps it'll help you. Glen.
Just checked it out and the youtube clip of the car in action. great tech article, car sounds good too.
I made a set of baffles for the 350 sbc in my 23, and it took an afternoon to do it all. They did drop the sound level about 50% and didn't hurt hp very much. First I bought a set of header gaskets to fit my flange and then I cut some flat steel to the same shape to act as my cap: Then I cut a couple of pieces of exhaust tubing from Advance Auto in half and punched a bunch of holes in each tube. I inserted a punch into each hole and used it to make each hole into a little scoop shaped deal: Then I welded the tube to the plate and bolted it on: We did the same thing with the 455 Olds in my Son's car, but he had no flange to bolt to, so we drilled a hole in the bottom of his cone and put a bolt through a tab we welded on his baffle. It dropped the sound level of that car way down too. We tried packing fibergl*** inside, even wrapped in stainless steel mesh, and it all blew out the first time we got on the car, so we pulled all that out and just went with the steel tubes. The fibergl*** also really hurt performance a lot.........car was stuffed up sounding too. Don
Don, How long are the pieces of exhaust tubing? When bolted in, do they extend all the way back up to the #7 and #8 cylinder exhaust tubes? Thanks!
As I remember, they only went up to the furthest back exhaust tube so as not to block the flow and cause overheating of that cylinder, but I did them maybe 8 years ago, so I kinda forget. Don
