Anglia guys, what is the width of the front suspension for anglias? I am starting a g***er project, lused to have the dimesions for a original axle and after market. I dont want the wheels outside the fenders. I have a gl*** front end I will be using. Any help and ideas will be welcome
Probably best to get the wheels and spindles and mock them up under the front end to see where the king pins need to be. Roo
If you go back thru some of the older hot rod magazines most of them run a 48 " inch axle, the thing about building is you do need to do a little homework, the information is out there just have to hunt a little.
Are you planning to use American Ford style spindles or Anglia style spindles? The take different substantially different width axles. And you might do a search, we've talked about this several times in the past. Here's one of them. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/anglia-front-end.543111/#post-6006813
I have a '49 and my son has a '48 Anglia. Unfortunately I am currently bedridden recovering from a bike crash and do not have access to my blueprints. My best recollection is that you will want a track width (as measured from the center of the tire tread) of 44 inches, ***uming you will be using tires wider than the original (skinny) tires. Mine is under construction uses a Fatman IFS with a narrowed rack to maintain proper tie rod geometry. Follow my HAMB build thread ***led "Attic Anglia". My son's was the first Anglia we did. It used an Opel GT front suspension and 13" Vega artillery style wheels. The tires stick out about 1/2" in the stock steel front end. I would have preferred a narrower stance and at some point we will probably look into wheels with more offset.
Thanks for the help guys. I talked to ron pope motorsports and he can make it any width needed, any drop, and sell me everything I need for the front. I will still have questions when I get started, I am trying to finish my sons f-1 that he has lost intrest in and also got a cushman 3 wheel scooter with cab and bed to restore and sell. My schedule is full!
Did you get a front axle? I have this narrowed '37 Ford one that is under my '49 Anglia that I am selling in the Parts For Sale section.
I used an Opel GT cut 6" to 48" flange to flange and had no problems. Another inch wouldn't have hurt
King pin width will only help you if you know what your stand out is with the spindle and hubs you are going to use. It gets a little crazy with all the options today. If you are measuring and have your sheet metal in place using the back side of the wheel ( or centerline if you are using spindle mounts) you can start doing the math and come up with what you are after. I am ***uming that you are going old school (I hate that phrase ) if you are going independent you can probably contact any of the street rod suspension manufacturers and they can set you up with a suspension kit.
