No coast to coast trips for this thing that I can envision. The lake is about 15 miles away... that's about as far as I intend to regularly drive it. Maybe some car shows that are 50-60, but within a $300 tow bill back home at absolute worst. Between fields, I'm not worried as I can bring it back with a tractor with little drama. I did consider driving it Union City (where it was built) if I ever get it as presentable as this bread box would get. That's probably 150 miles, but not until I get the gremlins knocked out.

Good thought on the tires. Yes, they are imminent on the buy list. I'm tracking down some 22.5's. The lock rings don't look bad on the 20s but I think I can find some 22.5's and go tubeless, saving a couple hundred bucks on tubes and boots.

A 6-71 would cost more than the bus, adapter and new clutch :D

Who knows, this could turn out to a complete fiasco, but I don't think it will (obviously). The price is cheap enough that if I HAD to s**** it, I'd at least break even.

  3. My 1976 offenhauser catalog has a listing for a adapter 332 thru428 ford engine to mercury or truck transmission part number 0603. it states must use same year starter & flywheel.

That's a nice bus! Looks like it's in decent shape too.

Use what you got in stock first! Adapterplate, and a truck engine a the biggest clutch ***embly that will fit and be good to it service, cooling or driving-wise, and it will hold a lifetime of abuse, all over again.

The tires and wheel combo is a good move, toward safe and happy motoring!

Get to it, and post a few more pictures of the whole rig. How the inside? 70-90 style or HAMB era?

I would love to hear any updates on this one. Did you have any luck with finding more info on your trans?

Here's the full album. It was groovified in the 70s when converted. I'm afraid what might be under the cladding on the sides. They at least cut two supports to get those windows in. I suspect the rest of the windows may still be in there. I'm just hoping that the sheet metal underneath isn't rusted away. My intentions are to strip it and make it look a little more "period". I really only plan on keeping the bathroom and fridge. My thought it is put in modular seat brackets from a van so I equip it as I need it on different days. The cabinets and such are going to come out. I'm thinking of replacing them with older airliner overhead units.

I can't find a thing on the transmission. Very little info as of yet. I haven't got it home yet. Going to try and get that arranged in the next couple weeks.

Ignore my doodle. I was just "envisioning" what to do with the windows if they cut more supports than I can see.

It sounds like it will be a cool project for sure. If you can read the tag on the trans pretty well, maybe call a heavy truck repair place around you and see if they can find anything for you. I worked at an international dealer in a rural community, and you'd be surprised how many farmers and small businesses were keeping ancient vehicles going. A decent truck shop might have more info and parts than us average joes can find on google

Yeah true. Napa has catalogs for some of the parts amazingly. Brakes, clutch and pressure plate don't seem to be an issue, though they aren't in stock but can be got.

    That is a nice project.
Needs a lot of fixing. But looks structural sound.
Interior I ain't that bad, in the looks department.

Pictures dident look so good, but I saw most of it. They came out very small.

You should be able to click on the picks and zoom in. Once I get all the trash out I expect it will look a lot better.

The front and the vents are where the water damage is. The paneling is all coming out. The seats were nice at one time, but I bet if you started sitting on them, they'd crack and split.

I'm hoping to find wheels and tires before i move it. The tires on it look like they will hold air, but it would be a pain if they blew on the way home.

...might be worth the cost of a trailer/rollback to transport...

Yeah. Trying to find a trailer. I don't know of any rollback that could handle it and get under powerlines. Maybe though. I'll have to ask around. None of the tractor haulers I know would mess with it, aside from a lowboy.
