Hello all, I picked my late fathers 1939 Chevy Master Deluxe coupe project, going to try to get it on the road. It already has a Heidts front suspension and rack, a 10 bolt rear and a 305 (swapping that later another thread) but the wiring harness was all cobbled together. I have the new harness, just wanted some thoughts about turn signals, I don't believe these cars had any so I guess on the rear is it best to run with the brake lights or have a separate light for them? On the front I'll have to find something that looks good on the front fenders probably under the head lights. My dad had already did most the body work, the interior was done by previous owner in a awful red cloth, I am going to go for a more late 50's early 60's look for the car. I have a line on a 327 from a guy at work, maybe that with a 4 speed I also know where there is a 58 Pontiac read axle if the dude would part with it.
does the car have parking lights in front? if so convert to dual filament pigtails, because in my opinion addons such as those rod lights look out of place
In the rear you can go both ways 1157 bulbs will put turn signal and brake lights together, other filament (low side) will be tail lights. You also need an add on turn signal switch that works with 1157 bulbs, at least a 6 wire switch. If you need any help with it, you can email us at rebel43jb@comcast.net
On the front of my 37 I used the headlights with the extra bulb built into them at the bottom. You can have either a turn signal or a parking light with those.
On my 39 I swapped the buckets side for side and had the adjustment holes to the outside and I used aftermarket Harley front fender lights.
Thanks for the tips, I'll do the 1157 bulb thing on the rear. I am not familiar with those type headlights, does anyone have a link to them?
