Well I have been moving the body of this truck around for almost a year and I have finally started doing something with it. You can see the build pics at http://s996.photobucket.com/albums/af81/Torhino/Build pics/
So far I have removed cab from original ch***is and have it sitting on a 1974 Chevy 1 ton Crew Cab dually frame. Right now I have it on the frame with the original rear mounts and a 2x6 sitting on the frame for a front mount. I decided to build a new firewall, install a 1959 Bel Air dash (Which my wife and daughters bought me for Xmas), and building new floor before I decide on final mounting of cab. The new firewall is built from the front panel of a wrecked 2007 F150 bed. Attached is a pic of my new firewall about half way done. Constructive criticism or helpful hints will be gladly accepted.

    Thanks,
    Todd

Just took a look at the photobucket build pic's. Looking very nice indeed. Hope you will keep us all up to date as you build this beauty.
Your gantry is the same as mine except mine is built out of 4X4's

Here are a few more. A close up view and one with the radio area patched completely. I am going to have to use a little filler to smoothe it out. Since I have been wanting to try Eastwoods lead free body solder this seems like as good a time as any. I will do this after I get this soda blasted or chemically stripped.

Like your idea. My 49 F-6 coe is still on the drawing board as it sits in my storage yard but I like your dash. I have a 55 packard dash that might just work nicely. Will be watching but its looking real tight.

I do not know what the original weight was with cab. The frame with engine and wheels and tires was a little over 3000 lbs. I think it would be in the 4000 lbs range with sheet metal.

Upadate on the build. I have finally gotten the cab situated on the frame where I want it but have not gotten it mounted. Unfortunately I have had the life trumps project issue recently. I have decided to change jobs and wiht that change comes a 650 mile move. The move will be to a house with no shop so the truck will stay stored in my shop in Iowa until I can fiugre out a shop arrangement in Wyoming. So with all that said I won't be updating this thread for awhile. I wanted to thank you all for your input and I will be back with some updates when I start building again.

Hey Todd, Have you found a place to work yet? Or is the COE still in Iowa?

    Donnda,
It is still in Iowa and I am having COE withdrawals. I am still without a shop here and do not see anything happening in the near future. I am going a little nuts without my truck.

Todd, I'm sorry something hasn't worked out but you never know what might come up. Keep an eye out for a shop to work in. You have such a good start I'd love to see some progress on this nice truck.

Nice work, I like your hoist setup as well. I recently got one kind of like that, (a Must have for a project like that!)
What Engine are you going to use? SBC ? I still in planning and dreaming stage of my 52 Ford COE and I already have an 84 p-20 srw step van ch***is (body still on it as temporary storage unit :) ) with the 6.2 l Diesel. supposedly that engine is similar size as a chev BB ? Still need to do some detailed measuring and sketching.

what part of Wy are you moving to? I'm in Salt Lake.

    Cheers

    JF,

I am in Wamsutter. It is about 3 1/2 hours to Salt Lake from here. I have had to postpone my trip to Iowa to pick up my COE until September. I have still not decided what engine I am going to use. I have a Z code 390 with 40K original miles. I have also thought about a ***mins diesel of some sort. Transimssion will be an auto.

Whatever engine I decide to use it will be mid mounted behind the cab so I can keep the cab mounted as low as I can without a huge dog house in the cab.

Due to the size of the Impala dash it will be molded into the front of the doors so when the doors are shut it has the same wrap around effect that it did in the Impala.

Going to get the COE from Iowa in 8 days. I have spent a year without it. Found some pics I took before I put it in storage. I think this is going to be the final cab position. Let me know what you think.

[IMG]Finally rescued the COE from Iowa and got it to Wyoming. Heres a pic with it in front of my house. It is temporarily and partially ***embled. When I saw it back together sitting on the Chevy Dually frame I remembered why I like it so much. Heres a pic.

Well after many trials and tribulations that including 2 job changes, a divorce, and a myriad of lesser woes my COE has finally found its way to the yard in front of my shop. As soon as I get the Ranchero and the front clip for a '59 F100 out of the way I will be back to work on it. Although I haven't wrenched on it I have acquired a 12 valve ***mins, a 3/4 ton van steering box, and a steering column.

  27. That'll be a great combo- good luck with the build

Are you still driving a "G" ride, if so where? The reason I ask is I live in Wy and work similar and just wondering if you were still here following the job changes.

I definitely like the 48 Ford body style and almost went that way but went Chevy instead.
