1952-59 Ford Y BLOCK VACUUM ADVANCE

    hey guys I need a little advice on replacing the vacuum advance on my 239 y block,can I do it with the dizzy in the car or should I remove it...im afraid if I remove it I will loose the oil pump drive..

    ok dobie but can I replace the v advance in the car or should I remove the dizzy...what do you think

    It's doable. There's a hairpin clip that holds the arm to the advance plate that could possibly fall down inside the housing so have a magnet at the ready, or better yet magnetize your pliers. Other than that it's just matter of undoing the 2 screws on the outside and working the old one out and the new one in.

    it was easy I threw an old packing blanket over the right side of the engine to lay on and went to work I got the vacuum advance points cond. from napa and replaced the line from the carb to the advance all at the same time...BUT I checked my old advance unit and it seems to hold vacuum just fine....I just don't feel like my timing is advancing when im on the throttle that's why I was going for the vacuum advance,i guess ill check the timing now...my breaker plate is free and everything looks good under the cap...maybe the old line was leaking?....I haven't drivin it yet it was too late when I finished last night ill take it out tonight and see...
