I am planning on customizing the hood on my 53 chevy be making it one pice and flat on the top. What would be the best way to get out the peak in the front?

I would definately cut the center out and weld in a 2-3 inch strip. I did it to my 52 truck hood. Looks awesome, but beware it will warp extremely easy, I had to redo mine because of this

    Hey,

To de-peak that Chebby hood panel there's no need to cut out the
stock peak from the panel. Instead, cut a slit down the middle of the
peak and hammer and dolly the peak into its self. Weld this slit closed. This method will save
on welding time and heat damage. For the balance of the hood seam, I
would carefully grind the seam out, tack in a piece of welding rod to fill
the gap up to flat conture, tack every 1/2" or so, and mud.

Do you have a picture of the peak/bead? It might be possible to shrink the peak down without any welding at all if it has the right profile. See attached pictures...

Thanks HH! I'm working on a tuck shrinking video right now. It is amazing what you can do with a just a hammer pounding over a tent shape in metal.
