Guys.... a buddy of mine is running a Hillborn set-up in his '56 gasser and recently one of the magazines had an article about others running mechanicals on the street. The problem is we both read the article but can't remember what magazine it was in ('cuz we're old) and he would like to find the magazine again.....any chance any of you would have seen the article? thanks, Flatblackdave
Do a search. Loads of stuff on here about that already. (It's the magnifying glass icon, upper left.) Cosmo
It was Hot Rod Delixe, Nov. '14 issue. Buddies Augie Delgado, Paul Soliz and Tim Avila gave input on article.
Yep, you can do it, but hope you're not afraid to MESS with it constantly, foul plugs idling around, and get about 3 MPG ish. at best. yep. dial-a-jet helps a lot, but still non-stop tuning. you gotta love it,or it's not worth doing.
I have Mechanical on my Mid to low 6 quarter car , easy set up & Tune ! So I tried it on my little 650 hp Jalopy on the street with blower , It was a real Bad A-S & A REAL Pain in the A-S ,,so I whent back to carbs
Mechanical injection on the street is like a big cam on the street it can be done but not to pleasant.
Once I got my barrel valve set, there was nothing to tune. It does foul plugs (by nature of having to run rich being it don't have an accelerator pump) so have to change them more often.. Admittedly carbs are better for the street but oh, the cool factor...
I have to agree...mine took alot of dinking around, and a few phone calls with a pro, (and some on car tuning from a pro)but now it runs good, and has awesome throttle response. You can be off just a little bit, and it runs terrible.
My buddy in high school had a BMW 2002 tii with factory mechanical fuel injection. It ran GOOD! Just saying it can be done...
Go for a Bosch mechanical set up. The can be made to look like a Hilborn set up! They are meant to be street driven and comes on some Mercedes v8 500 SEL mills. Looks damn fine, performs fine and is light. And I believe they are HEMI. But the Bosch K-injection is fine piece of mechanics.
