I have checked the old threads for info. on swapping a Y block into a '36 Ford and they are all very old. Just wondering if anyone has done this lately, say with some new ideas or parts like a shorter waterpump etc. I hate to remove or cut up the entire firewall. Thanks Terry

I've never seen a shorter waterpump for a Y-Block, if you happened to find one let us know about it. A shorter pump would sure help with the installation on my '29 Model A.

Rono, over on y blocksforever did a good build thread on a 37, if that's any help. I don't know enough about 36/37 to know.
He has a fairly recent post on shortening the pump shaft for a bit of addition clearance on a 56/electric fan combo.

If you want to get the fan up into the center of the radiator you need to use a truck waterpump that mounts the fan on the top of the waterpump and thus centered on the radiator. Also, using a truck rear sump oil pan gives you clearance up front for tierods etc. This also gives you a shorter external oil run and more room on the driver's side of the engine.

I'm all ears if there is a shorter water pump available. Not really interested in
    an electric fan.
