Eric, the same kinda thing happened to me bout 8 years ago. I talked it over with the wifey, brother and folks and they all said,"go on your own,we'll back you" Well I did it and I'll never EVER work for anyone else. You got great referrals on here so look into startin your own gig.Sell off some of your parts/cars and bite the bullet. good luck in whatever you do......Shiny
I feel where you're coming from. I've been in the fabrication/machine shop for a major food corporation for 12 years and they are shutting down production Thursday, Feb. 3 and moving to Mexico. I'm losing my job and what I've come to know as my shop. Let's top this off by signing my home over to the city this week also for a shopping center development and my year has already gone right down the toilet. But back to job situation. I have realized that every job I have left, I have done better for myself and hopefully this will be no exception. Keep your head up and remember that sometimes we need to be forced into situations so we can better ourselves.
We should all let streamline Know they let the wrong guy go.Next time ya goota order a part call em and ask for Eric theyll tell ya he no longer works here then tell em youll order your parts somewhere else.just an idea to open there eyes.
Sorry to hear that.... I'm in the same boat working for a company as a senior drafter. Happened last Monday.
I'm with him. Same sitch in 2004. 2 weeks in the hospital, new baby, bought a new (read twice as expensive) house and got laid off exactly a week after the close. It took a year or so of bouncing "decent" jobs till I hit the one I'm at. And it's the best thing that could have happened. I'm actually better off now than before, I think. Everything happens for a reason, and the Big Guy wouldn't dump this on ya if he didn't think you couldn't handle it. Sometimes it's just the poke we need to realize we aren't really doing what we want, ya know? I'd wish ya luck, but you don't need it. You'll do fine. Jay
Good idea, but the owners of that place are stupid, stubborn jackoffs with money falling out of their assholes. Too stupid to learn. I have never bought anything there because of how they have treated my friends. Hardly anybody in Denver buys there for similar reasons. But that's just my opinion.
Eric,,,,,I was outta work for almost 20 months,,,I had owned my own business for a lotta years,,,and just got tired of all the crap that goes with a small one man business,,,like the 60 to 70 hour weeks and no vacations,,,, I sold the property and liquidated my inventory and enjoyed some rest for a change,,,,, All my family and friends kept reinforcing me with the idea that with my talent in the field that I had chosen for myself that finding suitable work wouldn't be a problem,,,,my phone would ring off the hook! It didn't,,,,,not that I didn't have a couple of job offers making a lot more than I had previously earned,,,but ,they were traveling jobs,,,outta town 5 to 6 days a week,,,,,I'm an ol' dog,,,I like my front porch,,,, After 20 months I found that most of the jobs are not geared for a over 50 greybeard,,,,,like me I guess where i'm going with this is I now have a job again,,,,and I bought a business that my wife knows all the inner workings and has done this type of work since high school,,,with 3 full time employees and 1 part timer,,,,,,I'm just the Silent owner and delivery boy! You know the hot rod parts business and you know the inner workings of that type of business,,,,and you also have a lotta guys here that you have helped in the past that are willing to be future customers! BTW,,,,you were the only reason to do business with Streamline,,,,HRP
Eric, sorry to hear that...it sux...and hurts all at the same time... Hope you decide to stick around Denver... R-
Eric, It sucks to be laid off. I was laid off in 2002 at Boeing. worked my taill off for aver five years. Now I am back out there with another company that bought Boeing Comercial Aircraft; Spirit Aerosystems. They are hiring. Why not start your own business. From the other posts I have read, you are talented and seem like a you are an honest person to deal with. Go for it! David
Eric, I know it's tough right now but with your skills, experience, friends and contacts all over the world I believe you'll come back strong as ever. You're the one that introduced me to all these hot rodders in the Greater Seattle area. I thank you for that. Let me know how I can help. Keith So are you going to change your HAMB name?
This is a huge bummer. I gave business to them because of your rep on here, and then the way you treated and helped me. I have a friend who was getting ready to place a big order there for his flathead powered '53, I'll stop him in the morning. I'm sure someone will be willing to pick you up for their business, you'd be a huge asset.... Good luck man and thanks for the great service.
Eric - sorry to hear about the plight. It's not as bad as it seems, tho... Sounds like you got good counter guy skills; take a DEEP breath, go hide out in the hills for a couple of days and 'find your center'. You'll kknow what it is - it will have the quiet ring of truth to it. If you decide to go into biz for yourself - you MUST have a burning desire for what you've chosen to do. It's that burning desire which sustains you thru thick and thin - it has to be both your vocation and your avocation. this is why it's important to find your center first! A buddy of mine (old high school stoner-type friend) came by my house 13 years ago and announced he was quitting his dead end job and was gonna go into the hacky-sack biz. Damned stupidest idea I'd ever heard - how the HELL are you gonna make a livin' sellin' hacky-sacks? Stoners never have money - it's all huffed away! Fast forward - he paid cash for a half-million dollar house in Seattle. Cash made from sellin' hacky sacks. I've you've ever seen (or flipped) a guatemalan footbag, it came from that guy. He found his center Followed his dream and life is indeed good. Take that deep breath, find your center, and do the same.
Sorry to hear about that Eric. Now you can move back to the PNW and pick up where Vintage left off. I know, easier said than done, but we need you man. Think about it.
damn, that sucks... enjoyed shootin the shit between real customers at goodguys columbus with ya the last couple of years...
Boy, if that doesn't rock your boat. Like many here have said I feel you'll land on your feet.. I also think that they will pay a price for letting you go, in lost business and good will. It seems that you've treated a lot of people here in a top notch manner and if you land somewhere that involves parts a lot of business will follow you. I'll be hoping you will soon land somewhere that was even better than the last place. Be sure to let us know where you land and good luck. Frank
four years ago I got "let go" from a job I was doing well at and was devistated. I started my own deal and now I am doing real well and they are on the verge of being bankrupt... sometimes you can turn shit into gold...
I am really sorry to hear that. After you moved from Woodinville, WA to Colorado for THEM! Well I will keep my mouth shut, but I am not happy about it. I always knew I could count on you to get me what I needed. Good luck
Eric, have not met you, but I know you have always treated us HAMB'ers right. I have also been laid off before, it does suck. The feeling of uncertainty is not fun,, but I always kept confidence that I would find something better. And I did, always ended up with a better job than what I was laid off from. Had to move around, but found better jobs. Keep up the hard work, it will pay off, you will find something better.
I forgot that the same thing happened to me 25 years ago. Shit, I sound like an ol'fart...anyway, I was fired, long story, but I never new that I would never work for another employer again. My construction business just kinda' kept on going and it's been a good thing. I've got 20+ employees...good ones. Four have been here 20 years!!!!! I'm fortunate to have them. When I was fired, I just got into my second home with TRIPLE mortgage payments, a new born and NO job. I was deciding which bridge I should jump from the Bay Bridge or the infamous Golden Gate. I can't swim so I didn't jump. I have some serious friend who referred me then and now and it all worked/working out. Things happen for a reason. Don't dwell on the fact that you're fired. Dwell on the fact that this is a new opportunity and things will fall into place. Keep us posted!
Gosh, you're making me blush. I don't want to get in a pissing match. (besides this is a public forum) I'll keep you-all posted....I have a few surprises up my sleeve (black t-shirt) Thanks guys (and Denise) eric
S0-cheap How the hell are you? Good to see you're still around. Still got the little roadster? PS I may be a red faced monkey, but that's not really me.
fuck Gold and Jarvis.....ooops........sorry you could do something up here, support system already in place(house and pals)besides your mountain not flatlander
Good luck Eric, And I wish the best to you and your family. You KNOW the whole situation makes me feel a little queezy inside. HAng in there man, you are good people and good things will happen for you.
Sorry to hear about the bad news man. I hope you'r able to find something else so you can support the family.
