I've been working on a '50 F2. I got to wondering about the knock out on the right fender... seems it goes to a vent tube, which goes to a Magic Air heater.

How hard are these heaters, and more importantly, the vent tubes to find?

I know they were on other Ford models, what were they, and are they all interchangeable (are my odds increased of finding one)?

This is the vent tube...You probably have never heard of that have you? If you look at the brochure shot I have included under the "Bonus Built" ****on you will see how this vent tube works. The Bonus Built series trucks had three ways to allow fresh air to circulate in the cab. They were:

    Vent Wing Windows
    Cowl Vent
Vent Tube that flowed into the Magic Air heater

The Vent tube was an optional item. As you can see it is a two-piece unit. The smaller piece (left side in this picture) hooks up to a knockout plate which is right above the right front headlight. By bolting into that knockout plate, it then attaches to the second piece which connects to the firewall.

I sold a complete setup a couple years ago, it needed some work but the tubes and parts were all complete. They are rare and most are missing the logo on the heater itself. Also, the controls are hard to come by. I am not sure but I think mostly these magic aires were in the 5 star deluxe versions of the 51-52 F series. Maybe they had them in 48-50 but I can't say for certain.

They were on the '50 F-series, but I think they were in other Fords as well starting that year. Surely Ford would use the same heater in all the models, but according to: http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=229336

"Heater boots now available for '49 -'50 Ford F-1 to F-3 with standard heaters ,'51 & '52 Mercury trucks with Magic Air heaters and '51 & '52 Ford F-1 trucks equipped with Magic Air heaters"

'The '50 had them for sure, as well as the '51 & '52. But I've seen them in shoeboxes, I swear! They can't be much different that the trucks (well, except the vent tube), can they?
