I bought this project a few months back and I picked up a ford 8ba flathead for it and a coupe roof now that I start to get into the project someone was trying there best to make a coupester out of it I found that the quarters where shorten about 3-4 inches i would really like to do a coupe but it seems like it will be much more work any ideas what should I do and the spilt windshield is up for sale I don't need it I have no idea what it's from
I think you have enough to actually build a decent car. It will take some work but they all do. It would be really cool with the poles laid back and a chopped convert top!! I'd go for it if I were you. Here's a pic of what I started with. Tim
I was thinking about that too if I would use the same system that a Corvette has with hard top Removable
But I do live in sunny California and a lot of roadster are out here not to much coupes most of everything I see has a small block 350 not to many flatheads running around in my area just a lot of rat rods
You've got what you need to build a first-cl*** coupester on either the A frame that's under it now or a '32 frame that would probably result in a prettier car. Lots of people poo-poo the idea of a coupester ever being pretty, but in response I submit the following evidence... Edit: Wait, wait...this ^ ^ ^ is NOT my car, but it is one that was made from a coupe and is one that I admire greatly. Perhaps someday MY coupester will look as good. Right now I have my car torn down and am sorting out the "rough mechanical edges" left by the previous owners/builders while at the same time turning it into a highboy on the original A frame. When it is presentable again I'll post photos. Sorry for the confusion. Truthfully, as I am discovering, coupesters do not have the same kind of charm as do real roadsters when they are stripped to the bare essentials. The primary area for concern is NOT the longer doors, but rather the door tops and the windshield area. As the above example makes perfectly plain, slimming the door tops and grafting a roadster windshield onto a coupe body is pretty much all it takes to make a really smooth and sleek hot rod out of an otherwise ugly duckling...
Where is that car located now missysdad? The frame under this one was a hybred of sorts... 32 truck frame , sectioned 3" at firewall , same can be don with tubing.. Full floor, with channed look
I have no idea. I got the photo from another thread here on the HAMB and saved it because it is such a nicely proportioned coupester. I'm sure the owner won't mind my using his car as an "ideal" towards which I effort with my own coupester...I hope not anyways.
If you have some pics I'm very interresting to have some information of this build I'm making the same on my modified , And I have about concerns(marigolds) with the junction of bottom
I did very similar to yours made a flat pice out of 1/4 with a stud for the post then made the sheet metal blend to it
I'd very much like to see as much construction background on this car as you have, but I don't want to risk hijacking the original poster's thread. Would you be interested in starting a thread on just that car alone? I'd sure subscribe!
For the OP's car, if they were trying to make a coupester out of it, why would they shorten the quarters? Aren't the quarters longer on a roadster, and the doors longer on a coupe? that's a really odd mod. I don't think it'd be that tough to add the length back in to put the coupe roof on. If you want a coupe, I'd add the length back in and make a coupe. If you want a roadster, keep going where the last guy left off. Either way will be quite a bit of work but should be do-able.
The1/4s look like the correct length to me the door opening looks right also , the cabin area is really long on a sport coupe , I have seen the doors shortened and 1/4s shortened to make the ****pit more roadster like , but it also shortens the wheel base , I just made my upper decklid pannel longer cause I had to make one anyway..
I meant to do a build thread the goal was a painted hotrod for 5k doing everything the hamb experts tell you not to do.. But I built it in a winter unemployed , for some reason I lost a lot of pics I have a couple of door windshield pics , but the car was kinda a throw together
