First build so far got a centerbolt 305 and t350 I'm at the rear end now I got it from a 87 4x4 s10 blazzer do I make and weld on new pads or is there easy way I keep seeing drill hole I 1/2" forward ?
buy new pads and weld them on......you don't have to move the rearend by redrilling the holes unless you want the wheels to be centered in the fenders.
If it were mine, I wouldn't cut off the pads if they are the correct width. Just re drill them. If you cut the pads off, and weld new ones on, then the rear axle should really be taken to a rear end shop, and straightened. This is a step that a lot of builders overlook, but I feel it's critical if any serious welding is done on the axle. I think centering the axle is crucial. even though its only 1.5", you will notice it immediately if you don't do it. If you have any questions on building your 49 feel free to message me.
Just thinking out loud.. how about an offset lowering block to get the rear centered? At the worst you may need some machining done to some of the other parts.
You can try chevsofthe40s or National Chevy ***ociation for all the new stuff you need. I've got a bunch of leftovers and spares, so contact me if you need any shiny bits. Sean
ooh, you have the rare 1949 Chevrolet accessory steering wheel. that's worth something even all screwed up. Nice ones go for $500 - $800.
