    Whodack Good for you mate!
The worst decision you could ever make is not making one in the first place.

Not sure who came up with this phrase, but tis one I think we need to embrace from time to time.

Over the weekend I got stuck right into the pickup. I have posted some pics of the engine as I put the finishing touches before paint. Next I need to pull the front end out for clean and paint.

It has been a week since I left work. This past week I have done a fair bit on my pickup.
It has needed a new bed floor for a while. So that was the first job, along with replacing the rear spring bushes, shackles and bushes.
This was a much easier task having the bed removed, so it worked out well. Whilst I had the bed off I took the opportunity to repair the roll pan that had been damaged when someone ran into the back of me a while back. I had just never got around to repairing it.
Seeing as how I had the tailgate off, I thought I would add some new striping to the faded 'whodaky' on the tailgate.

  11. Looks like retirement's working out well for you so far Geoff. I'm on holidays at the moment, got a little work done on the VW early last week, then spent the rest of the week getting ready for the Ballarat swap meet. Generally in the lead up to the swap I pull almost everything out of my shed and make 3 piles, a "keep pile", a "sell pile" and a rubbish pile. It helps me to keep my way too small shed from getting too cluttered. Me and my mate Brendan "The Mud Cake Man" (the best chef in Warrnambool IMHO) went up to the swap on Thursday arvo. It was the longest drive I've ever had from Warrnambool to Ballarat due to being delayed by road works for about 45 minutes. After a big HOT windy weekend we got back home about 3 o'clock yesterday, we brought a few bits and pieces and sold a few. I forgot to take any pics this year but I have got one that I took today of all of the things I brought (I'll post it up later). We ran into a heap of great people, some of whom we only seem to see once or twice a year and pretty much had a good weekend. I'm still on holidays for the rest of this week so I hope to get some more work done on the VW although I may need to tear down the fence around my property in preparation for having it replaced next week (finally).

Geoff, you have done some work mate, and the pickup is getting some jobs it needed. Sold some stuff at the swap meet and made some money for the rego . Also spent time with friends and my nephews and I was kept busy teaching Ethan how to buy and sell . We had a good time looking for parts with him and he even bought a remote control chopper . Also it was good hanging with Gary Dee and Fussy bear . Ethan's first time at the swap went down well .

  14. That's one thing I noticed this year Tony, there were heaps of those r/c choppers for sale. Ethan should have a great time with it, almost considered buying one myself.

    Thanks for the comments guys..
Yes Tony it was time well spent on the pickup.
It's feeling a lot tighter having done the bushes in both the front and end rear ends in the last few months.
Having the pickup bed apart and replacing the floor has got rid of quite a few rattles. So the pickup is a bit more user friendly.
I will be pulling out the radiator today and having it cleaned out.
Then it is onto getting the new wheel and tyre combination done.
Sounds like you guys had a good time at the swap meet. I am sure Ethan learnt a real lot.

    hi all,
i also report that it was a great swap, i had a heap of fun. There werent many bargains and the very hot weather made it hard but we had some luaghs and cooked up a big meal friday night that went down well. Ethan had a great time and the RC helicopter unfortuntely does not fly but Ethan has learnt a very valueable lesson with - if it seems too good to be true its beacuse it isnt! he knows now to be more thorough and check things very well like for instance asking for a demonstration that things work!! it was good to see the BigT explaining the finer points to Ethan on bargaining. i sold a buick v6 and turned it (plus letting some moths out from wallett) into a very rare hexagon tool 2x2 with original air cleaner! it will go into the pickup. Please don't tell my wife... i just can't help myself. I will have the motor completed this weekend. this is why i love hot rodding so much.

Hey guys, it's Ethan the kid, I did have a great time at Ballarat and believe it or not, it was my first time I've ever been camping! Hey Geoff, It'd be great if you could make it next year, and am hoping I can learn some moves off you. Uncle Tones did teach me some valuable things on the weekend. Hey Ricky, you do know that the dinosaurs never went extinct, because they were reinvented at Jarusu park! And can we all stop t a petrol station and I can jump in your car and when they don't notice, we can sneak off and make a stop at Kurmond's! Mowich kept on wondering off and ginge made 10 star breakfasts and also wondered off around the place. I hope to see you all next year at the swap meet next year, and I won't be interested in those remote control choppers either.

Tom the flathead looks good. Good to see different flathead speed equipment in use.
Yeah my tentative plans are to get the new wheels done for the F100 and then move onto the Victoria. Of course there is always house stuff to do. But it will all work out.
Ethan, sounds like you had a fine time at the swap meet. There is so much to be learnt and you have a great lot of teachers. Not only will they teach about all things hot rod, but probably more importantly, the life stuff.
    Catch you guys whenever.

A few pages back I showed some images of a planned wheel change to my F100.

At the time I said there was more to this wheel change than met the eye.
My F100 has Chev running gear and driveline. So obviously early F100 wheels weren't going to fit. Me being me I wanted to make use of what I had , if I could. But I still wanted the wheels to look like early F100 wheels.
What to do? Well I did have a bunch of Chev rallye wheels. So I got to thinking and planning and came up with a solution.

My basic plan was to make a cover that would hide to slots in the rallye wheels and resemble the centre of an early F100 wheel, as well as allowing me to mount the early ford cap.
To start with I cut a disc of 1.2mm aluminium from a sheet.

This would be formed with my English wheel to the necessary shape. The desired radius was determined and set on a contour gauge.

    The disc was then formed.

I then trimmed the disc to the required finished size.

Next I formed a roll on the outer edge of the disc.

The next step was to cut the centre out of the disc.

A roll was then formed on this centre cut-out to conform to the rallye wheel centre. In essence this roll locates the disc onto the rallye wheel centre. The disc is located and held in place by the hubcap. The early Ford hubcap has to be modified to fit onto the rallye wheel centre. I will show how I did this at another time.

  26. That's pretty damn cool Geoff. Amazing how much it actually looks like an early ford wheel.

    Thankyou guys.
I do tend to be a lateral thinker and of course I tend to challenge myself!
    OK, onto the hubcaps.
Like the early Ford caps, the rallye wheel caps mount very similar. Although the diameter of the rallye wheel cap mount ring is a lot smaller than that of the early Ford wheel.
So the answer is to remove the mounting ring from a rallye wheel cap and fit it to an early Ford wheel cap.
