is procomp electronic ignition parts any good? or any procomp parts? thinking about buying??????? any one use there stuff?
used procomp ignition on a flathead I was running. WAS being the key words here. didn't run much longer after that. my advice: stay away from the cheap junk & buy something that is time tested
I my dad bought the ignition setup for the 327 in his Studebaker. The electronics have been trouble free, (box ,coil and pickup) the distributor was poorly machined, and made of inferior metals, and sheared the weight pins in short order.
Procomp is considerably less $$...............but you get what you pay for. Look like cheap Chinese knock-offs.
No experience with ignition parts but I brought a high volume oil pump and a stroker kit off them years ago and they weren't worth the s**** metal they were made from. I'd imagine the rest of their stuff would be similar.
Got a new pro comp distributor , coil , and a used msd box off ebay for my blower motor in my bucket. Result no spark, blamed it on another ebay screwing , so i got another pro comp distributor that didnt need the box to run, and no spark. Turned out my brand new pro comp coil was bad. Was going to cost as much in shipping as the part cost. Went with MSD problem solved. Might have gotten by with no problems just getting another pro comp coil but i was really disgusted at that point.
pro **** is what we call it on another forum I am on . there knock off MSD box we opened it up and were suprised when a EE said the components in there were hardly up to the task there asked to perform . better off buying a old used MSD 6al or 7 box
Used to sell pro comp parts but too many returns made us take them off the shelf. Better to pay more and not have issues.
I have a ProComp HEI on my Ford 302. It ran, but not too much later the module fried. I replace the guts with good parts (off the shelf at AutoZone) and then it worked fine. So, if you're going to run one, just buy good parts to keep in the car for when the original parts fail
