I'd like to hear from anyone who has had success ***ling an aftermarket body such as brookville, fibergl*** etc under the state's ***embled from parts or kit car provision. I'm having the worst time getting my brookville ***led, they keep asking for a MSO signed over to me, but I did not buy a finished car from them, I only purchased a body and frame and built myself, so the MSO should not apply? I'm so frustrated, i know I could just buy a ***le/go the wrecking yard route, etc.etc. however, i followed the rules, I bought this stuff fair and square, why should I be put through this? They are putting me between a rock and a hard place. Thanks guys.
There's a former cop here in FL who has a business getting ***les for aftermarket bodies, etc. She charges about $200 per ***le ansd told us that it's mostly for fees. I'll see if I can find her card. I may have to hit a few friends for this info. Should have something in a day or two.
mso certificate of origin or any thing like this is what the state wants to prove it aint stolen parts I know it is a pain in the *** but some states are worse than others. just jump through the hoops and you will be driving it instead of looking at it rot.
My understanding of applicable law is that the state wants a car to be ***led and registered as whatever it most closely resembles. I think this is a SEMA idea that was endorsed by law enforcement. The best example of this I remember was when somebody was producing chopped Merc bodies in fibergl*** and telling you how to mount them on an '84 Chrysler platform. You would have a valid ***le for the Chrysler but nobody wants such a chopped Merc to be ***led as an '84 Chrysler. The cops need to know what they are looking for. And it wouldn't help to ***le it as a "special". Same problem. So,... I don't think the state cares where you got the body or whether you made it yourself. They just want to know what your car looks like. So if you could show them a picture of a stock 49 Merc, and a picture of a chopped real 49 Merc, and a picture of your gl*** chopped Merc on a Chrysler platform they'd probably want your car to be ***led as a 49 Merc even though it doesn't have any Merc parts in it. So if you produce a car that looks like a '32 Ford the state will want it ***led as a '32 Ford for the same reason and won't care where any of the parts came from. I still don't have a lead on that former cop who can get you one of these ***les. I've got a few calls out.
Hey jandlcars ! Were you at the New Smyrna Beach cruise last night? I think I saw your T flat bed. I was the '37 police car.
OK -- here's the info on the Florida ***le service I mentioned above. Florida Fast Auto ***le Service Inc. "Your Cl***ic Car ***le Spe******t" 6310 N. Nebraska Ave Tampa, Florida 33604 813/237-5805 www.floridafast***le.com Karen Matera President karen@floridafast***le.com
Is there a serial number on either the frame or body? If there is it should have come with an MSO from the manufacturer.
A slightly different situation but it shows there is flexibility...I brought an OT Cobra in from the UK to FL a few years back and needed a certificate of origin/MSO from the manufacturer. UK companies don't use MSOs so I thought I would have a major issue. The VLO in Pam Beach settled for an official looking sheet stating ch***is number and showing company logo etc. They then issued a year of manufacture ***le no problem.
