I have a 1949 chevy 3100 with stock 216. It has a 1 barrel zenith carb on it right now. I recently acquired this clifford intake for cheap and was wondering. .. is it worth the trouble to add a 2 barrel to this engine? I am gonna run split headers and flowmaster.

I would not, but that's me.
The 216 is not the engine to use for performance mods.
It has babbit bearings and only partial oil pressure @ low pressure!
    Just my 2 cents.

  4. without changing the cam,you will make the 216 a gas hog. I don't think you would notice any performance gains

It would probably would make a louder sucking noise, if you're into that sort of thing, but I doubt it would provide a performance gain. If you do try to use that intake, you will need to use a manifold heater of some kind, or you will hate it.

I wouldn't install that 4 barrel intake on the 216. You are better of getting a 2x1 intake. Those engines are very reliable when babied.

You can get an adaptor to put the two barrel on your stock manifold. I've heard the Holley 5200 (copied from the Weber 32/36) is quite good and gives better low-end response as well as slightly better mileage.

I planned on using a 2 barrel with adapter plate on this intake anyways. .. was never gonna run a 4 barrel

The intake is most likely for a 235 so you will need adapter rings to fit it to the 216.

You're going to burn soon anyway, so why not? Leave the old dipper alone and drive it.
