I sanded through the base with 1500 grit, can I air brush base over the area, wet sand and reclear the quarter panel or will I need to paint the whole quarter again?
    Thanks!

It's is possible to spot in repairs. It is not easy but it can be done.

You can spot in the area and then clear the whole panel. This is no different than doing a panel repair. You only base coat the area you repaired, then clear the whole panel

Agree with Oldsman. Blending in color is easy. Blending clear is a lot more work so it's easier to clear the whole panel again.

I'm with these guys on this. Spot blend your base and cllear the panel .

  8. If it is solvent based base , put the first few coats on light, so i doesn't attack the sanded edge.

Thanks!! I plan to apply several coats of clear with 1500 or 2000 block sand between coats any way.

I have blended clear, it is a lot of work, but can be done. Dupont makes a blender, I am sure the rest of the manufactures do the same. I have done some spots on my convertible by blending clear, and I can' even tell where the clear was blended. It can be done, just a whole lot of work.

Flowmeister makes a good point. The solvent in the base will lift the edges where you sanded through the clear. Spray a couple coats over the spot very light. If you spray wet coats, you'll get the lifting.
I avoid blending clear like the plague. I've done it when fixing a spot in a big panel, but it's really just more effort than if I can clear the whole panel.

Thanks again! I spayed a base coat and will sand and base coat again then clear the whole panel. I figured I'd have to clear and sand several times to get it like I want anyway.

I don't think you will get good adhesion clear or paint on top of 1,500 grit...

DBC 500 blending clear it's like clear base coat scuff the area that needs the repair mix the DBC 500 in one mixing cup in another cup mix some base paint with the dbc 500 just enough to give the clear some color make two light p***es on the repair 10 minutes between coats add more clear to your color mix and repeat make the spray area larger by half then more clear to the mix and repeat clear coat the panel let dry cut and buff, always works for me. I agree with thirtytwo you will have adhesion problems using 1500 between coats

Thanks! 600 w&d ok between coats?

  16. Are you getting that much orange peel in your clear?

I don't understand the "plan" of actually planning on sanding between coats of clear.

Base coat isn't to be sanded either. If you need to sand base coat it needs resprayed
