Well, I guess it was bound to happen. Winter has arrived to Southern Ohio. As I was attempting to leave early from work, I had to sit in a 1 hour + wait to get up a hill on the freeway. Ok, I'm originally from California but lived back East for 15 years, then 13 years in Wisconsin, and now here in Ohio. Only a few inches of snow had fallen but when it's 10 degrees outside, roads not plowed or salted yet, you have a 25% grade to climb, the little Chevy Aveo trying to climb the hill side ways will cause traffic to grind to a halt.

So I took a deep breath, and finally got by the amateurs then I switched on the radio to put me in the mood. The song "Kokomo" by the Beach Boys made the rest of the trip just wonderful. I was imagining pulling into my parking place in July at the Santa Cruz Beach & Boardwalk, unloading my Dewey Weber Performer and going to the inlet.

I know they are others that have a lot worse than us in Southern Ohio. I'm with Hotrodprimer. I hate winter, have never got used to it and never will. I really didn't mind driving everyday in a t-shirt, sungl***es and the windows down when I lived on the left coast!
    Enough said.

I have lived in the South all of my life except when in the military and I don't see how you guys up North can stand the snow. I really hate that ****. But I think its worse down here when it snows because we have no tools to deal with it. Its always a wet slippery kind of snow here. Sand on the road is about all they do.
I have walked 2 miles in the snow to get to work because the driving on it down here was too dangerous and I did not want to risk damaging my car.
I found out it takes a long time to walk a couple of miles in the snow and you can get really cold.
    Yep, I hate winter.

Moved to Indiana from California. Drove a propane tanker all over the Mid West for 3 years. Had my fill of snow and moved back to California.

Far be it from me to be a safety nazi but, should you be taking a video while your driving in icy conditions?

Besides, how do you keep your phone so steady while you're peddling that Aveo uphill?

  16. Blew a tire on the old stand by OT Blazer this weekend. Just too cold to go out there in the snow and scrounge another one.
And before that, the heater core in my daily went south. A 97 F150. To replace it, ya gotta remove the dash! YIKES!! Well, we did it.
    Winter ****s............

I was not in a ****py Aveo, My Off topic ride has all wheel drive and winter tires. I've lived in snow country and know how to drive. As you saw, the roads look empty that's because they are all behind me going 20 mph!
As for the steady camera video, I have image stabilization software.

Gregga- You my friend have the right idea! Nice photo.

Telling you how nice it has been here in the Willamette Valley this week probably won't cheer you up, but what will you do for me when it rains until the 4th of July. It was 65 wednesday and my neighbor was mowing his yard with his shirt off.

  25. I'd call all you southern half of North America a bunch of whimps, but I'm not a fan of the extreme heat (and yes it get's very hot here over 100f) but I'm also not a big fan of the snow and cold (-32c here yesterday not sure how that converts to f but around -20, add the wind chill and it's -40 to -45c)

  28. I went out snow shoeing in the woods today, it was above zero for once, so I had to get outside. Pretty much gave up on heating the garage in December, so I'm getting real cabin feverish.

I can't believe I thought Algore (Rush's pronunciation) was full of it! I should have listened...he's a true visionary. I have decided to reduce my carbon footprint and send my savings to his "non-profit". g
