Looks as though whoever drilled the hole for the kingpin missed the center of the boss by "THIS MUCH" & thats why your spindles wont fit youve gone a long way & spent a whole bunch of time & money I know it hurts but you need to back up & re-group

well sorry about the late reply. thanks again for all those that offered some great advice, it steered me ,, (ha ha get it?? steered) me into the right direction.
with a combination of the above parts 4'' dropped beam axle, i used the speedway flat steel steering arms tapered the holes to except the drag link from the underside giving me plenty of clearance, ive also had a new front spring made to suit, it has the correct spring weight for a flathead engine and is of stock height , this combination has lowered the car to the exact stance i needed and also give a very plush usable suspension. the ride is truly amazing for a buggy spring car.
i did still have some shudder problems the dread shake even with all new steering and drag link ends so i was scratching my head and wearing out tyres, took it for its wheel alignment a week after and it was just to much toe in that was causing the drama, so now it drives like new handles like a dream.
i aslo pulled the steering box column etc and rebuilt all this as well.
that was a learning curve as i had to cut the old worm drive of the steering rod and press the new one on , after this everything pretty much fell into place, with the correct adjustment and a steering box full of the correct lube it now has no play in the steering at all,(had ruffly nearly 1/4 turn before hand.
so i can now drive through corners with amazing speed and accuracy and to be honest handles better than alot of new cars ive driven no body roll at all and just seams to dig in and grip around the corners,..
theirs alot that went into making this combination of running old style shock, adjustable perch modified to take the shock mounts etc, the correct components of steering arms and drag link, i also got to retain the original radius rods etc etc.
but what a great set up now. im kind of shocked and worried at the same time as to how you guys build cars, mine was what i thought , done correct, but after binning nearly everything of the chassis and doing it correctly ive learn t how it SHOULD be done. not what IS done and the differences, a word of warning just cause some old timer has through n it together and seams correct it is not safe, so be careful out there folks. in Australia we have tuff laws on engineering and it stifles us to build great cars but the other side of it is on a general note OUR cars engineered or not are built better than the majority of U.S cars and im thankful the RTA here have these guidelines. its just a shame they wont allow us to build radical cars no matter how safe and correct
