good tip... thanks man. you know how many times the kids at the school i substitute teach at tell me to put DUBS on the impala? damn, i shudder at the thought. maybe even vomit a little when i think about it...
Hey chromedRAT, you should PM my brother-in-law Sean (sean72). Guy knows his stuff when it comes to models. I can't think of any kits with Astro's. But he may be able to help you. -J
Astro's: AMT '69 Cutlass Cragars: AMT '65 El Camino or Chevelle Wagon Radirs: Revell '63 (?) Thunderbolt Torque Trust D's: Revell '32 Ford 3-window Chrome reverse w/baby moons: AMT '29 Ford roadster Chrome Reverse, no caps: AMT Ala Kart, AMT '51 Chevy (rear wheels only) Steelies: Revell '31 Ford Sedan or '29 A pickup or the "rat rod" t-bucket. Also, the Revell '39 Ford Standard coupe. Both have great tires. Wide 5 Ford Steelies: Revell '37 Ford truck or Panel truck 4-bar flipper caps: Revell '59 Impala Pie crust slicks: Revell Tony Nancy 22Jr double kit - has two sets. Cool drag wheels too. Thats just a short list of stuff I could think of off hand. These are certainly not the only kits you can find those wheels/tires in. But they are some of my favorite "go to" kits for wheels. Other than the above mentioned tires, most AMT kits have good bias ply style tires. They only come in one size, but they make good front tires for hot rods. A lot of the best rear tires I have to find in old, original kits, talking 1960's vintage. Back then, I guess they understood that the rear tires were supposed to be big! Even the biggest bias-style tires in todays kits look to small on the rear of a fenderless hot rod.
Beat me to it, Fidge... Chromedrat...here's a pic of my '65 model, with the mags from the '69 Cutlass kit and skinny w/w's from the Modelhuas. http://public.fotki.com/Gluhead/model_pics/65imp4.html Olson
i know it won't do you much good, gut i lucked out some years back at a swap meet in MN, a model guy had boxes and boxes of parts/built kits etc, had a pile of wheels removed from built kits, all glued to cardboard in sets, i scored a bunch of ancient 5 spokes for like a buck a set! the lil coffin kit has big n little astro type wheels with cheater slicks on the back, but it would take some work to use the back wheels without the cheater slicks.
My friend Vic does the resin kits that "Dave the Model King" sells. If there was enough interest, and he could get some originals, I'm sure he could knock off a bunch of resin copies for you all. He probably has originals, come to think of it.
check out some thrift stores, they usually have "miso bags" w/ different things in them for like a dollar or so, all the parts might not be there but you will get extra stuff when you wanna build something else. hope this helps you
