My dad was the president of the Norman County Fair in Ada, Minnesota, in the 60s. They would come and thrill the the crowd every year. From driving all around the race track on two wheels to the the guy sliding through the wall of fire, it was a thrill a minute. The fair also had model T novelty races, where the guys had stripped them down to just frames, and put a couple boards across to sit on and go. Theywould make a lap, and have to do a stunt like drink pop through a ******, do a sack race, eat a pie, bob for an apple, etc. Fun, fun, and simpler times.

    Nice footage.
My neighbor claims to have been part of the show years ago.
I believe he was the guy sliding through the wall of fire from what I have heard.
I have never seen that. Have any more footage?

i remember one part of the "cast" was a clown who would interact with the drivers. he had a little mini bike. he would have an "accident" and get up holding his nose as tho it was bleeding. the mc would ask "is that blood?"
    he would answer "no it'snot"
funny every time i heard it.

I wonder how many Model 40 Fords they destroyed over the years! I winced when I saw that!

Do you know where that was filmed? It looks a lot like Strawberry Hill race track, in Richmond, Va.
When I was a kid, Joie Chitwood was a staple at the Va. state fair., which was held at Strawberry Hill. I may have been present at this very event.

The state fair also included a kind of "bowl", in which a guy on a motorcycle rode higher and higher up the sides, including a segment with a lion in a sidecar!

Short track, dirt track racing, top drivers (Junior Johnson, Fireball Roberts, Lee Petty, Junie Donlavy team, etc.). Roots of Nascar stuff. Strawberry Hill evolved into Richmond International Raceway (RIR), and is still active today.

  13. Cool footage- I remember going to the Joey Chitwood show at Yakima Speedway when I was a kid.

Come to think of it I think some of the cars I've bought look like they were driven by some Joey Chitwood wannabes...
