Hey guys..done a bunch of reading today. I was going to get the 79 El Camino rear springs to get my car low... but then I found these... Coils meant for a 79 El Camino with a 2' drop built in.. http://www.andysautosport.com/products/belltech__5118.html OR these: 3" drop https://www.opgi.com/el-camino/99L0353/ Now Ive read that the regular El Camino coils would drop around 4".... so if I got the above coils, simple math says a possible 6-7" rear drop??? Any advice or experience with these??? Here she is.....
You only have about 9" suspension travel to begin with. About 5" between frame and axle, less if the car is loaded with p***engers and baggage. To put it another way you can only drop 5" before the frame is resting on the axle. Another couple inches more and the frame is resting on the ground. Do we really have to go thru all this again? OK, a 2" drop is good if you are careful and don't carry heavy loads or drive on ruff roads or potholed streets. 4" drop you will have problems, drag the ground going in and out of driveways, potholes, high man hole covers etc. Any more than that is pretty much impossible. You can get lower by modifying the frame and using air bags or hydraulics so you can raise the car up when you have to. Then drop it for show. But, that is another topic and costs a lot of money.
I'm just trying to get true measurements..out of the threads I viewed on here I've seen anywhere from 2-4" drop from these coils but no one seems to have true measurements or pics after the drop, or even a follow up on the ride when loaded with people, etc.... There are a few options of coils you can buy for a 79 El Camino... I can't find what part number people have used either. I'm flip flopping on bags or static ride... If this seems to work well, then I'll do the springs. If its a PITA then I'll spring the cash for rear bags.
