Hey guys I've always had a broken wheel stud since I bought the car and I figure it's about time to fix it. I pulled the drum off today and looked at it, but my shop manual doesn't give a procedure for replacing the stud. I'm guessing it gets pressed out with a shop press? Or are there some other steps I don't know about? Thanks in advance
Shop press is the best method. Be sure to take the stub with you to the parts store so you can match it up; they aren't all the same.
Ok that's what I was hoping. So there isn't anything on the front side of the stud that holds it there? I just want to make sure there's nothing I need to do before I try to press it out. It almost looked like there was a tiny triangular washer or something but it was hard to tell because everything has some surface rust on it.
Some cars have a thin washer on the bolts that just screw on and theyer realeasy to get off. also, according to the parts manual the boltsare 1/2-20x3/8 and the part number is 8a 1107-a.
Thanks carnut and Dobie. I have the lug soaking in some rust penetrant lube Right now and hopefully I'll get it up to work this week and press it out
Years ago, I bought an old car with a couple of missing studs and I think I just punched them out with a hammer and something blunt like a small cold chisel or long bolt.
I replaced all of mine. I was surprised how easy it was. I placed the nut on the end of the stud and a couple sharp blows with a 3 pound hammer took it right out. The same going in.
