as im mocking up my zoomies i see that i'll never be able to run them with the alt bracket that i have, just wondering what else buick made that will bolt on? what motors are they from, any pics???? here's what i got....66 401 fwiw...
if you go to a shop that repairs altinators, starters and such they can get you a universal bracket kit that makes it realy easy to install. i bought one for my olds but never used it because i wanted to use a generator.
Nailheads, late 50's era I believe used two double ended head bolts on the left bank, lower row ront two bolts. The bottom part was a head bolt proper, the upper was a stud - 3/8"-NF or maybe 7/16"-NF. You bolted a simple generator bracket down to the two bolts and that was it. These bolts are also usable - as is the gen bracket - on Rocket motors. A little drilling for proper spacing was required, but it was a clean and simple way out for a gen mount on the Rockets. In the pic, you can see the generator on the Rocket motor in my 50 Ford coupe. The gen on the Nailheads mounted in just about the same place.
Alan has made these available : http://www.alangrovecomponents.com/Buick.htm I made my own for my HotRod, here are pictures.
Alan Grove released a set of PS pump/Alt/AC brackets that look really neat. I'm ordering a set for my nailhead as soon as I get the funds. http://www.alangrovecomponents.com/Buick.htm
Don't know if any of this stuff will work on a nailhead, but I junked a '69 Buick 350 block last summer with a whole set of OEM cast aluminum accessory brackets - I kept the brackets 'cause I never saw so much aluminum on any other early GM engine! (Weight reduction was a Buick specialty in the 60s, and the Buick engineers fell in love with Alum., I guess, due to their experience with the Alum. V-8s.) I think the Alt., PS, and A/C Compressor mount brackets were all Aluminum - I'm sure they could be polished and anodized or clearcoated to look real "purty" on somebody's rod. Study a picture of a late 60's Buick 350 to see if any of this stuff might interchange with the nailhead...
hey man. we ran into the same (sorta) problem when we started building the headers on our nailhead. We ended up using the stock bracket, but chopped out the bottom and bridged the top with a short piece of 1 x 1/8 flat stock. ****, Ive never been an eloquent writer.....heres some photos to give you an idea of what worked for us. hope this helps.
