Whats up with Southern Motors, there are posts here from 2006, there website is dated 2007 and shows a "prototype model" I think it was model 408, but now there is an article
    http://truckaccessoryguide.com/southern-motor-company-southern-358-pickup/

claiming the 358 is coming. So is this company? have they made or been making trucks or is this all just old articles and they be gone?

    I don't think they survived.

  4. The prototype truck was built in house at Carolina Rod Shop in Piedmont,South Carolina by Glenn Dodd & Larry Seagers (Two of my fellow tri-city and crew and they showed it at the NSRA nats, both regional and National and several of the Goodguys events.

The main problem was the guys that commissioned the build overlooked just how complicated getting approval to manufacture a new truck and all the mandatory must haves to sell it through dealerships.

The truck sat a Carolina Rod Shop for several years.

This link takes you to Carolina Rod Shops website and gallery,,the truck is the last feature in the gallery. HRP

Was doing some clean-up in my storage area, found a brochure on this truck. Got me curious, so thought I would check and see. NADA, nothing - at least nothing within the last 13 or so years.
Remember logging-in to their website, asking for the brochure - filed it away, looks like nothing really came of the the company or truck. The prototype might make a good 'custom' for someone (?)...

I remember this truck well. Many years ago, when Lincoln NE was hosting the Americruise, they were there with that truck. Sometime on that Saturday, they had major problems with their rearend and they destroyed the driveshaft. Our local driveshaft and radiator shop took them in and worked into the night putting new bearings in the rearend, I believe and building them a new driveshaft. They were at the fairgrounds the next day and that was the last I ever heard about Southern Motors.
