Big block mopar oil pan question - are they reversable?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by RacerRick, May 8, 2012.

  1. Are big block mopar oil pans reversable? Can a front sump pan be turned around and bolted on as a rear sump? Their perfectly flat oil pan rail seems like this might be a possibility, but I don't know if the bolt pattern is symmetrical.

The reason I am asking is that I have a 413 with a front sump pan, and need a rear sump. Looking at the pan, it looks like it could be turned around and the correct pickup installed, but I would like a definate answer before I take this thing apart.

The pan cannot be turned around. What you want is a 72-77 big block truck pan, they are a rear sump pan. If you can't find one you can have the pan cut and turned around, then get a rear sump pick up tube. Thats what I did fore my 440.

Also check out motorhome big blocks. I used a 360 pan from a motorhome to get a rear sump version for my 318 poly.

I used a Dodge big block oil pan. They came with the sump in the rear. I paid 160.00 for the pan and 28 smacks for a pickup tube. That was about 1990.
