I have been on here mostly searching and reading around, not really posting much. I have always liked the early 50's Chevy's and love this one that came up for sale. Does anyone know about this car? I'm in Houston and its not like I can take a short drive to California to check it out myself. He is saying its in great shape but I have heard that before and been screwed. Just wanting to know if anyone knows the guy or has been around it at any shows. Also, is the price about right for this or is he asking a bit much? I have seen that they are all over the board. He is asking 19,500
What timwhit said. But with no particulars it may be ok. There are a few projects for sale that could be built for that much and have paint and nice chrome. Good luck.
Need to know more. Engine, trans? What is done to suspension, looks like it is bagged? Interior? It looks high at first glance. If I opened the hood and saw a blower motor that was fully dressed it would be a steal.
Thanks. Here is a list of whats done to it. The interior isn't bad but could be redone for sure. - 383 stroker V8, very low miles - 4 barrel Holley carb - headers, custom exhaust - aluminum radiator, electric fan - 700R4 auto trans - A/C equipped (functional, wiring disconnected) - Mustang II front clip - front disc brakes - rack and pinion steering - rear 4-link suspension done by Aaron Iha, "Ch***is by Aaron Iha" - front and rear airbags, tank and compressor, switches inside - body is completely straight. No welded panels, no rust, no bondo except on customized areas - shaved doors and trunk, keyless entry door poppers w/remote - custom louvered split hood - custom flat blue paint - Pin stripping done by Bo Huff Jr. "Bo Huff Customs" - custom Fleetline trim - interior complete, grey tweed - Painless wiring - cd player, 4 speaker system, amplifier - Coker Cl***ics "Wide White" whitewall tires, very low mileage, almost new Gl*** needs to be replaced. Cracks on the front driver side windshield, driver and p***enger windows only. Rest of the gl*** is fine. The front and rear bumpers are original, just need to be re-chromed.
My problem is that I just do not have the time and/or energy to start another build. I spent the last 7 years working on my last "toy" and after all that time and money, she burnt to the ground from a stupid *** mistake. I just want something that doesn't need a whole bunch of work and I can enjoy.
Sounds pretty good - what part of California is it in?, can always make a cash offer to maybe lower price. how long has it been For Sale?
You can get a lot for $19,500. If you love it, go ahead but if you just want a nice car to drive I'd expect a beautiful paint job & chrome for that money. Remember, too: it does not matter how much money someone spent building a car, it's worth what it's worth. That said, if something is just the way you'd want it then it's worth a lot more to you.
That engine seems a bit much for this type of car. Low riders or Customs usually have stock engines or mild chrome dress-up parts. A stroker engine is usually more fitting to a hot rod. As far as your last car burning to the ground the 1st order of business on any rod I buy is installing a kill switch. I had a 39 Chevy street rod that was back from the Upholstery shop about 2 days. I started the car up to take it out of my garage to go to a cruise and smelled smoke coming from under my dash. I turned the kill switch off pronto. Several wires under my dash were cooked but not the car. You asked for comments I like others think it's a little high. This is one of the body styles I have been looking for also but I personally would p*** on this one. You are going to get a lot of opinions on her asking for other people's views on something but it all comes down to one thing. What do you want and how much are you willing to pay for it. Good Luck.
Sounds as if you are already planning to change out the tweed interior. Upholstery and chrome are not cheap. Figure that into the equation and you will have some serious money invested.
did you ever contact the Seller before the auction ended on eBay? the car ad can be seen on multiple sites. if you come to some type of a verbal agreement with Seller you will have disclose it's general location if you want someone from here to check it out for you. just because it has been to Mooneyes, Viva Las Vegas, etc does not mean that people remember any real details about it. I would question metal work in trunk.
All good points and I understand everything said. Yes, next car will have a kill switch. The last one started when I was cruising down the freeway and a kill switch wouldn't have done anything. Have you ever seen how fast a car catches on fire? LOL holy **** that happens fast!!! I wasn't sure how long ago the shows were, I was hoping they were somewhat recent and someone had recognized the car. I think I'm going to keep looking and see what I can find. I do not mind not having shiny paint, honestly I don't want shiny. I own a detailing company and work with Ferrari's and other exotics every day. I need something that is completely other world of what I do and see every single day so when I get in that car on my way home, I leave all work behind. I have always gone to rod shows and theres is just something about old school American that I can't get away from. My soon to be wife loves them as well so we are on the hunt for something fun, cool and not exotic or luxurious in any way hahaha. Appreciate all the replies.
I'd be in touch and show interest. Keep in touch with lots of questions. Let the seller know he may have a buyer. I get that you are strong enough to buy something with a high number. That would have my attention if I was a seller. You don't stumble across strong buyers in this day and age. You may just get close enough to the seller where he may just accept a more reasonable offer. I have to say, it is a nice car and sure sounds like all the right things were done to it.
