Probably the best idea if you're on a tight budget. There's way too much work in bomber seats for anyone to be selling them anywhere near cheap.

Cheap is not always the best way. Buy a good used set, you will be spending a lot of time in them hopefully.

  5. I think I'm going to get a set for of flip down small boat seats and have them re upholstered nicely make some brackets and fit them on either side of my drive shaft tunnel.I have a tunnel for the trans and a flat spot in between which I'll just make it look like part of the tunnel but I'll use it as a small storage spot for things that's in your pockets

I like Rotten Leonards seats. They look cool, and we're actually comfortable. He's here on the HAMB.

Cheap and bomber seats usually means poorly made or not so nice. Speedway Motors does offer some lower cost aluminum bombers and there are some less expensive knock offs on e-bay sometimes.

Early Morris minor seats feature a solid base with 1" round holes and back, perfect, cheap. If you can find them. A British bomber seat.

About 10 hours and way under a hundred bucks in these - beads were done on a Pullmax type machine, but they could just as easily be chased by hand..

I also vote for Rotten Leonard's seats. They look good, are comfortable, and the price is right.

Don't use boat seats, if you are ever in a collision those seats will disentegrate.

  15. Leonard's seats are wood! How is that any better?

    Barry those look killer

The problem these days is the cost of materials has risen so high (thicker gauge aluminum, metal, copper) Then someone has to fab that material into a cool looking seat. All of sudden $400.00 is an inexpensive price to pay once you consider everything you're getting (material & labor)

It's difficult to get a nice/sturdy aluminum bomber at a low price. Speedway offers some at a lower price, but they are really 'plain jane' looking with no style to them. If you know someone with a dimple die set and a shop press, you could make them look nicer for free.

I think you should try making a set, it sounds fun. Then you're just paying for the material and you can create a design that you like. Keep us posted and post photos if you go that route.

Here's a set of bomber seats I had made for my car.

Since you arent worried if they HAVE to be bombers (since boat seats would be ok) have you looked at things like Rhino ATV seats? Comfy as hell (most bomber seats I never found all that comfortable on trips) and since many atv guys want the biggest and the best, they pull out the stock units and dang near give them away.

Not to mention that using ATV seats is a terrible idea.

  21. Yeah..not a fan.i think I'll have to make them. I don't have a dimple die tho and no way to make one in a lathe..and 200$ for the die is a bit much

I saw a RR with molded plastic school desk seats in it once ;) Then another one with old stamped steel patio chairs in it, which was a marked improvement.

All questionable ideas aside, have you looked around for old commercial truck seats? I got a pair for $100. They're wider than the average 16/17" bomber bucket but you could section them. They usually look something like this set that's on the epay right now:

EDIT, also, I think Model T Tudor front seat frames could work but there's not much to them; you'd need to add material but the form is there.

Check old school busses, we had a 48 ford that had a seat like those above.

  29. That kind of stuff isn't around here honestly.our junkyards are full of 90's plastic cars.

I ordered that dimple die and a new hole saw,I'll get a sheet of metal and probably make them.plus I can put speed holes in my inner door panels and other stuff now.

I found a set of kirky seats new for 130 each, then look perfect if you cut the top off,but they would still need some pads made
