I am looking for a starter soleniod for my 51 Pontiac Wagon. anyone know what else will work on this one? It bolts to the stater with four bolts. The local parts people don't have a clue.

It's pretty likely that NAPA can supply this, but not from the computer. You need to find a store with a counterman who's at least as old as the car and knows how to work the "Book".

The local NAPA reply was " Ain't got it on the 'puter." I will take it in and see what I can do.

  4. if you dont mind relocating it, just use a more common ford or universal style, mount it to the fender or firewall

All the round 6v Delco solenoids will fit, or if you go 12v, '55-6 Chev or Pontiac will work ... the square Cads and Buicks will sometimes fit ... note they're adjustable, so make sure it doesn't bind the plunger when tightened. The one you have is probably repairable unless the windings have been toasted ...

Yes--a secret key if you can beg one is NAPA's (Echlin) or Standard's illustrated catalog--it shows all the electrical stuff so you can guess at interchange possibilities, gives makes and years of application so you can cross over in the print or computer catalog--and it crosses over to OEM part numbers too.
NAPA's online cat is wretchedly incomplete on older stuff, but I can find my Ford needs there. I'm guessing that the '52 Chevy listings in there are a lot better.
When at NAPA, check the dumpster on your way out and collect superceded catalogs--once you have the good ones, you can just stroll in and ask for part number DR-151 and byp*** the computer idiot entirely.

Standard Part # SS-210; brush set is RX-60 and the drive is SDN-17

Ive a couple, brand new, of the Standard catalog for "Older Car & Truck". I should put them on for Ryans auction. It covers back to the 20's on some stuff.
