How popular were those? That's exactly the style my '53 came with! It looks very cool but haven't seen many.

Tube grilles were pretty popular. $ 17.00 would buy a lot of groceries in 1962. Google 1962 cost of living for a real mind bender.

I guess when you were making 85 cents an hour making shakes and sundaes at a local drive-in like I did in '62 it took a while to order up one.:( I paid $5 for a '55 Plymouth grille for my '53 Ford at my favorite wrecking yard and $25 for a pair of Edelbrock heads for my Flathead.

I bought a set of chrome rims for my 54 Ford on the revolving charge plan from Sear's,Roebuck & Co. in 1966 and was working in the Shipping & receiving department at Sear.

Tax and all they were just under 40 bucks. HRP

Funny thing seeing this today and thinking of building a wooden buck then going down to a shop up the road that bends hydraulic lines all day long, guy is good and fast. Will stop and see him next time am down his way.

They were behind the grille and visible through the spaces between the tubes.

I can't blow it up it is a copy from a google image of a JC Whitney catalog if your printer has a zoom option you may be able to, there may be some pictures on the kustomrama website too.

those prices always amaze me but then remember my first real job making $1.25 minimum wage in '69 and thinking how great that was specially since the waiters shared their tips and was getting double that most nights from them. also remember a buddy of mine's dad telling me he was making buck an hour as a body man in the 50s. which was why the magazines to give you an idea of build cost often told you had many hours were charged for body work.
