Ok , I got some things done today . I just got back from a 10 day road trip to Kentucky and Alabama. Went to Kentucky to pick up a slide in camper for my truck . And to Alabama to drop off some goodies for my wife's 59 wagon . I have a ch***is being built to get rid of the x frame . It's been cold and wet here in west Texas , and power off half the time . Got home just in time to watch the fb game . Cleaned up around here and got back on project . Finished up my water lines for the radiator and tigged them up today . I am finally learning how to use my Eastwood welder . Going to order up some SS clamps this afternoon and then go back out in the shop after my wife goes to work and do my hangers and mounts for the lines .
Now the rest of the story . While out of town I stopped at CTC ranch i n Denton Tx. Picked up two great rear doors to go with my quarter panels to build my bed . Will save a lot of metal . Also bought a really nice trim pie ce off e bay for the trim . Weather will be warm rest of the next ten days so I will get my cab in primer and firewall painted and hopefully mounted . Will see .
Well I fill like I won the lottery! Have a friend that's been telling me he had a old stomp shear and brake , but been to lazy and busy to go look . Yesterday it was in the sevenths in the morn but got down to 40 by noon. So I called him and said I was going to come and get the shear , as I already had a Woodward pan break . He lives 80 miles south on Mex. border and it was 80 down there . Well when I get there and before I had seen either one he tells me will make me a deal on both . When I get in his barn I had a hard time keeping my cool . He has this Whitney-Jensen 416 combination brake ( I've been looking for one about 20 years ) and a Wysong & Miles 452 shear . He says you can have both for $500 , and he'll load them ! Guess I'll sell my Woodward . Back to work on truck tomorrow and off to Vegas on Thursday. Will clean them up and paint when it warms up . Does anyone know if Roper-Whitney makes parts for this brake . Everything looks good and I did try it there . Bend 16 ga. Like ****er .. Latter Blue
We'll be on the bike again. We will be in the Alpine / Ft. Davis area from 3/26 - 3/28. Don't think we'll be around for LSR this year.
Got back from marring off god daughter in Vegas Wend. Not much work on coe other than finished mounts for water lines . Worked last two days getting shop to fit in my new sheet metal tools in . Had to move every thing in my fab / MC shop around . Very cramped but work table on wheels and will have to move 49 out to use shear . Coating inside of bed panels monday and will mount on wen. then start fitting quarter panels .
Cleaned and primed ,the undercoated the back sides of the bed . Started mounting on Wed.and finished mounting up today . Over 200 Huck rivets . Some holes left open till I start fitting up dodge quarter panels . These photos are with the bags down .
One on lift is my wife's 57 . Putting a electric start on it . The green one is my 49 pan . And thanks for the comment .
Started working on the quater panels to the bed . Mounted to bed sides and welded the door skins I got to the quaters . Went pretty good , although I do have some cancer to repair , and metal to form and fill in. The sides of the bed will be cut down 2 1/2 inches . This along with the 45 will lower the way the sides look about five inches lower . This is what it scales off the photo Moose did for me . I will not cut till I mount the cab and sleeper to make sure on height . Tomorrow I will start other side and hope I can make them match . Will finish welding up then hammer time . Latter Blue . I don't know why they loaded twice ?
Thanks b-bop and shopdawg . Is it warming up north of the border yet ? I blasted the other quarter today as it has som cancer in it , bit not as bad as I thought . Going to do some more blasting tomorrow if the weather holds . Will start other bed side on Saturday . Thinking of how to finish off the fronts , maybe something like the front of the quarters on a 54 Mercury ? Blue
Had visitors , Garyn and wife stopped by from Canada . Then today I had Bill &Barb come down from Custer , SD to stay for a couple of weeks before we load up to go to LSR . They came to the house in Barbs beautiful 40 . Got the other quarter on the bed , I'm 8'2" wide . Just four inches under max . I really am getting excited about the look . Will start building tailgate tomorrow then on to making rear bumper and rear pans . Then to finishing the fenders . Barbs 40 is a true 80s survivor .
I'm late to the party, but thanks for the heads up on your build...I sure like it. I have half a mind to build a COE car hauler, but haven't stepped up to the plate yet. This just might be the inspiration I need.
Sorry I haven't posted in a while . Went to LSR first then got ready and went to Pate Swap and another week to unload . Lots of work but cleaned out a lot of stuff and made some bread . The build is coming along . Got cab re primed . Did a lot of little things to running gear and ch***is . Will have sleeper ready for primer by Friday and will try to have front of bed ,sleeper in paint by end of month . Once done I will mount cab and finish body work and on to paint . Will try to post some pictures next week . Also been working on getting ch***is on my wife's 59 back from SRG . They've had car , my money , motor, trans since last October . Been getting the run around . Have seen pictures but completion dates keep coming and going . Blue
I just saw a Studebaker pick-up on a different forum with 60 Dodge Dart fins on the box, you got me thinking! ( me thinking is scary)
Well I just got back from the hot rod reunion and had a great time with enlow and his friends and son . The drags were great ! You've got to put this in your bucket list . Returned through Alabama and after waiting another week picked up my wife's 59 wagon . SRG built a ch***is for it . Will get back on my Coe this week . Got really energized on vacation . Should get a lot done in the next two weeks as long as my wife doesn't start pushing the wagon build . Files were to big to post drag pictures but will shrink them down this week . Four COE s at Bowling Green . Later Blue .
I got pics of at least 3 of the COEs in the pics from BG that are in the thread linked in my signature. I am looking forward to the Hot Rod Reunion next year. Maybe next year I can keep the axle in the wagon Next year you need to camp with us
Got the sleeper completely striped and in primer. Yea ! Worked on bed lift yesterday and trying to get everything under the bed finished and tight . Made some fender wells for bed to keep mud and rocks out of compressor and air tank . Been playing with my new bead roller . I love it . This old age ****s , pulled a ham string . And no it wasn't from running , just putting a non running car up on my 4 post .
Got a lot of little things done on frame clips, air lines , fuel lines, bed lift completed, and more than I can remember . Made the supports for bed sides , riveted on , and started cutting down to match the photoshop THEMOOSE did for me . Painted the firewall the color I had picked out to see if I liked it . Had to paint the firewall before I can mount the cab and then will do rest of body work . I will paint the front of the bed and the red part of sleeper before I mount the cab also . ITS RED ! The whole firewall gets mostly covered up .
Cleaned my shop out today and turned the beast around . Started cutting the top part of the bed off and welding the top of the bed to the rail by tacking 1" at a time . Only got 25' to do should be done sometime this month . I don't have the patience I use to have but don't want any warping so it will be a slow go . While I had the truck out in the air I took some Picts to show the difference of the side t*******. Once the top is welded I will put the floor in and finish the bedside body and panel work as well as rear bumper . Going to extend the panels in front and make the front into a scoop ?
Thanks Enloe , hope you and all are well . Soon as it cools down some will have a package headed your way .
