History Please ID this old gauge / instrument panel

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by 34 GAZ, Mar 14, 2015.

  1. Anyone care to have a shot at identifying this dashboard gauge panel ? Says made by GMC division USA on the backside but that covers a lot of makes and years. The 140 is KPH and the gauges have Swedish letters. Tried lots of options on google but nothing positive. Thanks in advance for looking.

That'd be an 85 MPH speedo, not a 140 MPH. The original post was for a metric speedo face plate

After looking around online, I think it may be from a Volvo PV444A. The PV444 was first built in the 1940s as an 'A' version, with the speedometer in the middle of the dashboard. Later cars were a 'B' version, and the speedometer was moved in front of the steering wheel.

Go to this link, and scroll down towards the bottom of the page. The one shown on that page has a white plastic bezel over the front of the gauges, you may be missing that part.

I would guess that it'd be a commercial (truck) instrument cluster, perhaps from the late '40s or early '50s (judging from the style). It doesn't resemble any American General Motors automotive instrument cluster. Perhaps it is for a European General Motors p***enger vehicle but I suspect it is of the commercial variety as opposed to automotive. The speedometer, being only an 85 mph speedometer lends further credence to the thought that it might, indeed, be a commercial speedo.

  8. Kilometers instead of MPH and non-English spelling on the gauges puts it from Europe somewhere...

  11. So AC, a division of GMC , Flint Michigan made gauge clusters for Volvo in the 1950's. How about that !! Thanks Guy's. I was actually thinking of a slower USA truck , same as some of the other Guy's.
