Good day fellow HAMBers. As I have previously mentioned I purchased the 51 for 15K project that was done in Streetrodder Magazine. I have been unable to find the finished article through any web search. Have given it enough time so I think it is time to provide an update.....

I have made a few changes since purchase that are mostly cosmetic. I have added a finned air cleaner, valve cover and breathers to the engine compartment and it is currently in the upholstery shop for a much needed re-do of the interior. It is being done in red and black. My little avatar shows the car as finshed when I purchased.

If there is an interest I will be posting pictures of the before and after once I get it back here in a week or two. The only not done in the interior is the steering wheel. Have not made a final decision on exactly what I want to go with so please take it easy on me when you see the non matching wheel. It will be replaced.

I plan to keep this thread going as updates come so you can see the progress. I am also trying to keep the spirit of the 51 for 15k and keep cost under that mark. Cant wait to get it back and show my pride of ownership.

Neat car, I followed along as they were building it. I thought they never sold those magazine cars due to liability issues, how did you acquire it? Perfect car for the HAMB, should be plenty of interest.

So I guess first order is to get the mag and all the back copies with the full project.
rant, I got the car by shooting an e-mail out to the car club I am in and I got a text with pic from the builder. Went to go look and after a drive and the sound of the exhaust putting me in a trance....I bought it. Cant get the pics to load right now. Think it may be my ****py internet or my kids using up all the bandwidth. It gets about 61% loaded then I get the "error loading" message after about 10 minutes. Will try again later and re-size the pic yet again to see if that does it. Somehow I will figure it out.

Cool - you be famous already - did you resize your pics before trying to post them? did you try restarting your computer and then post the resized 640/480 pixel pics?

Lets see if the engine pic loaded. Re-sized it but it just shows 100% and not a pic. Here's to good luck.

Nope, I just keep getting the message: "The following error occurred" "There was a problem uploading the file". It does not say what the problem is. It is a 640 x 480 jpg file so it supposedly fits the requirements. I am fairly computer illiterate so any help or experience with this same issue please help.

So no one has ever had this problem.......wow! Makes me kinda special. Will attempt to upload from a different computer at school tonight. Think my router may just be shot. Everything at the house is slow, slow, slow. Somehow this week I will get pics up. Thanks for the interest guys....it's coming.

I had to go to Microsoft paint and resize them to about 30% I think, then save them and post them that way. Or my ipad does it all for me. That's why I rarely (can) post a picture.

Should have it back from the upholstery shop end of next week. Going to order the aluminum radiator, window channel, and cleaners this weekend. I will probably remove the air intake ducts to make room for the A/C unit and do a lot more to unclutter the engine bay a little more.

On another note has anybody done a power disc brake setup before mounted on the firewall or under the floorboard in the original location. Looking to make the brakes power due to back and knee problems. Just need a little feedback on products fit and finish from those that have overcome the install.

Thanks and will get some more pics up this weekend.

Sorry guys. I gotta wait til the end of next week to get it back. They made no progress in two weeks so I had to get in their *** pretty hard. Told them they are about to lose a repeat customer that can actually pay for the work. He wanted $500.00 up front of $2000.00 but he shuffled the paid for customers in front of me. I told him that if that is what he wanted then he should of said so. I also let him know that if another car went in front of mine I was coming to get it and never coming back cuz I dont pay full price up front for a job that I cant see done. He understood after I showed him my bank statement so he is gonna get his head outta his *** and finish by Friday. Maybe he has had a string of deadbeat customers lately. Problem is they do good work. Then come the pics.

Finally got it back. Damn it looks good. As soon as it hit the house I installed the aluminum radiator and push fan. All the way to work about 15 miles with a couple of red light stops and the fan did not even come on. Checked it and yes it is working. Car runs quite a bit cooler and looks really nice on the inside. 3000 for the interior which includes everything from paint, steering wheel, door sill plates and upholstery. Shop charged 2K for all the upholstery, carpet, headliner, 600 for paint and the rest in parts. Whadda ya all think (dare I ask).

  24. I'm gonna have to find all those articles and read all of them. I just bought Ch***is Engineering front and rear suspension for my 51 Fleetline.

    How does it drive?

From what I've heard interior people are charging lately I'd say you did pretty good. Especially if you are satisfied with the results. Looks good from what I can see.

Jade, the Styleline handles like a dream. I took a pretty good corner that should have been at 35mph...I hit at 60 beside a vette and it layed right into to and held the inside track like it was a natural thing. This car handles very nicely. The rear end kit on it is also from Ch***is Engineering with a 76 Nova 10 bolt. The article says 73 but the wheel cylinders said 76 with just a slight difference in design. The Walton Fabrication ****** mount is a really good fit too as it allows the change to a 700r4 just by moving the mount back. With the TH350 the crossmember will not allow for the speedometer to be fully secure. When I tightened it up it broke. Will be dropping a 700r4 within the year so no need to fix right now. Yeah the Ch***is Engineering is a damn good fit.

  27. Squid, do you happen to know the width center to center for the spring perched on the rear end? I have directions from Ch***is Engineering but I didn't see where it mentions dimensions for the perches..... Sorry, since your last post I'm all fired up and laying out lines on my rear end. I may have more questions too because I'm doing exactly what is done to your car. I'm trying to get everything done before my wedding. My soon to be wife might be pissed if we don't drive off into the sunset in the 51! [emoji54]

Sounds like you have a serious plan going. The interior looks great and I don't think I can get my truck done for that locally and my buddy in Waco has probably retired by now.

Anything over $1.98 sound like a lot of money to me. I'm used to 15cent burgers. But I'd say you got your money's worth. Looks great. :D

Jade I will take some measurements and p*** it on. The spare tire well had to be cut to actually fit the perch in on the p***enger side. It has a bit of offset as well. Will get some pics too and post so you can have the best information. Might take a couple days as I have work and school. Also if you are opting I would definately go for an overdrive from the start. It is wound pretty tight on the highway. Willing to p*** on and post whatever you need.
