Hello all. I've been on the HAMB for a while but I just "discovered" this group. Good info on here. Currently working on a couple of Ford projects so now I know where to go if I get jammed up. 1953 F100.JPG Merc in Work.jpg

I'm a wagon kinda guy,,love the Mercury wagon so I'm looking forward to watching this car come together.

Looks like you need to build some shelves, the wagon would look better with all the stuff somewhere else. HRP

Welcome from another Okie! You will have to check out the Okie HAMBer group as well as this one if you haven't already.

Thanks for the info guthriesmith, I'll check out the okie HAMBers.
I picked up the F-100 from a guy who had restored it back in '06 and drove it until the cam went flat in the original 216 straight six and he parked it. I picked it up at a reasonable price figuring on being an easy fix.
After I finally found a cam (I didn't realize that engine was only produced ONE year and only ONE cam will work in it), I installed it only to find that it has a blown head gasket or a cracked head. The compression was good and it didn't foul the oil running in the shop while breaking in the cam, but as soon as I drove it on the road it started steaming and turning the oil to chocolate milk. Now I don't know whether to keep working on that motor or mess with a V8 swap. I was planning on selling the truck at the end of summer to fund the Merc build.
Any suggestions? I have a complete 240 inline six out of a '67 F100 sitting in my shop but I hate going to all the trouble of a swap just to put a six back in it. I have a complete 429 from a '67 Cadillac with the front distributor also mothballed but I hate mixing makes.

I'm curious about the wagon...If I've ever seen one with the side strip inside the wood paneling, I've never noticed This one really kinda jumps out at me, so I'm wondering if it was stock, or has the wood been added to a none "Country Squire". Sorry, with Mercs, after Montery and Sun Valley, I'm lost with the correct model names.

Texas57, the Merc is a Monterey and the only real wood was around the decals on the sides and back. There wasn't any inside like the original Woodies. I'm still a newbie to these as I just bought this one from my uncle who had it sitting in his shop for the last 10 years or so. I'd always liked it too. After he decided to sell it, I found out it had a lot of rare options that he'd been collecting parts for but never got around to building it. He had the factory power steering setup for the flathead, original power brakes, and the power window setup. All in boxes. In fact, the inside is nearly filled with original parts, NOS stuff, swap meet finds, and repro pieces for it. It even came with a '53 four door parts car. I don't know if he said the power windows came on the '53 Montereys or if they were just period correct Ford pieces but they sure look 62 years old.
I haven't even brought it home from his shop yet so I haven't had the chance to really go through it.

Power windows were an option in 53 as was a two way power front seat and "Leather" interior.

Hey Okies....off topic, but anything going on in OK west or south of OKC this weekend? I'm thinking of looping thru Norman for the swap meet, then on down I35 for the Goodguys show in FW.
