Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Bruce Fischer, Mar 20, 2015.

  1. Now that I got all the wheel cylinders rebuilt and am road ready{I think}What color should I paint the wheels? I am staying with the steel wheels .Black? red? or green? Run it with or without hup caps? Thanks.Bruce. 003.JPG

I would prefer the darker body color as well. Do the hubcaps match front and back, they appear from the pic to be different. I would match the caps or remove them, JMHO. Nice wagon Bruce.

Cant go wrong with red. I would say green would be out of the question being the car is blue. Ive always liked red with a full cap so you get just a hint of color.

Factory brochures for '55, '56 and '57 Buicks show the wheels body color with small hubcaps, and either red or black with large hubcaps regardless of body color. So...if it was me and since your car is essentially stock, I'd go with red wheels and full hubcaps.

My own car, a '55, came from the factory with body color wheels and small hubcaps, so I elected to keep the wheels in body color but added large hubcaps. I could just as well have gone with red wheels and been just as correct...just a little flashier.

And yes, the hubcaps on my car are Oldsmobile, not Buick, by design. Why? Well, when I was a kid nobody in my town could afford the high-end Oldsmobile 98's with their Fiesta hubcaps, so us yout's had to settle for stealing and running the far more common Olds 88 hubcaps instead. True story.

OK, what is the next question? wheels darker body color w/ matching full caps is the consensus.

I love the little red rim that shows if you use a full size hub cap, but you gotta run white walls too. Otherwise the blue of your car.

Wait. I didn't vote. I've had lots of Buicks from 1949 thru 1956 when I was young and they were cheap. Every one I painted the wheels bright red no matter what color the car or what hubcaps I had. Maybe that wasn't right but it looked kool.
Still the body color blue on your Buick would also look stock. Wouldn't you rather drive a Buick that's kool?

Yes belair is correct WWW tires but red rims.

  16. I'll play too.
I would be different and go with white painted rims and snap on a set of poverty caps.
Another thought is the white rims and chrome bullets with chrome lug nuts.

The vast majority of cars lately have either red or black. Or the Frankenstein green. Over done. Played out. Separate your self from the herd. Think outside the safe confines of fitting in/conforming.

The wheel covers you have now are 62 Electra on the front and 62 LeSabre-Invicta on the rear. I like black wheels with stock 55/56 wheel covers or 55 Roadmaster flippers or 59 Electras or 61 Electras or 52 wheel covers or stock Buick small caps. I am kind of a hubcap nut so I like to change them up on my 55 Special for a different look now and then. Keep in mind you have to have wheels with the correct clips to use stock small caps. I really like your wagon, we had a**** all the other Buicks as I was growing up a 56 two tone blue Century wagon when I was a kid, many great memories of camping trips in that car. By the way, I am a huge Buick fan, I counted up over 40 Buicks I own or have owned from 1967 to present. Thanks for keeping another good old buick on the road!!

Red says Hot Rod. Body colour says Stock. Which message are you conveying?

  27. Rusty Rocket I know it looks blue but its metallic green .Bruce.

  28. Now I do have small almost dog dish round hub haps that would show more of the wheel but I need so find some clips to hold them on.I will see if I can post a picture of them later.Thanks.Bruce.

What color shirt should I wear today? Pants or shorts? Maybe no pants? Slow post topic days crack me up. I'd go black for wheel color.
