Hey guys. I have a problem with my brake lights flashing when im driving. They even stay on sometimes when I shut car off. when I lift up on brake pedal they go off and some times when I press on brake I only get driver side brake but I have noticed when I wiggle the turn single selector they both come on and work. weird. could it be bad flaher or turn signal switch? any help would be appreciated thanks. Oh its a 52 with stock hook ups and 6 volt

Probably not the flasher, most likely the turn signal switch. HRP

Probably the switch, sadly the replacement switches being sold from most vendors are outsourced junk and don't even fit correctly this has come up on several forums. Turn signals up until 1955 were actually optional but most Customlines and up did come with them at the dealerships, the dealer installed units were similar to what I used in the picture which will give you safety flashers as well. They work on both 6 or 12 volt systems. \'54 & Me 002.jpg

Yes I have seen those . But wanted to keep original if possible. I guess this is probably my best option just by p*** the original

I have the same one side going on problem you have. It's the switch in the column as other have said.. You just have to be sure that the stalk is in the middle position. I do this regularly when driving.

You should not have to "lift up the pedal" by hand to make the brake lights go off. It sounds to me that your problem is incorrect adjustment of the brake rod between the pedal and the master cylinder or perhaps the return spring at the top of the brake pedal is either missing or broken resulting in less-than-full-return of the pedal after you remove your foot. Check for the missing or broken return spring first. Alan S. Freeman

If you find it is your switch you can buy a replacement from Dennis Carpenter,I did this on the wagon.

I did find that the one I received I had to take the old metal one apart and use the housing with the new wiring,,the new plastic case didn't fit in the confines it was intended.

It does appear in the photo that the case is metal now. HRP
