I shipped a Caddy 390 and trans to California from Oklahoma a few years back. The buyer found a shipper to take it for around $300. There are a lot of sites on the WWW that bid on loads and if you are flexible on time you can save a bundle.
Another possibility is Ben D here on the board, he has T&A transport and if you could fit into his schedule and he has room he might be able to help.
Another possibility is a HAMB relay where you can catch someone coming this way that is willing to help or at least get it closer to you (use to happen a lot but haven't heard it mentioned of late).
    Hope that helps.

There online quote came in at $530, I was hoping to get it for a little less if possible

  5. Shop fastenal for a shipping quote.
Guy in Cali needs to get it fastened to a pallet and drop it at local fastenal branch store.

  7. Mike, You need to tell us the city in Ca. & the city in Kansas as well as what type of engine it is. I have several trips scheduled out west, but I do not put any nasty oily engines in my equipment. There are 3 quality transporters here on the Hamb: BenD, Racinman & myself. Check the Hamb O Dex for references & pictures.

Talk to them over the phone, Eaiser for them to be a goodguy and get you a better price, then for them to lowball the quote and hit you big later

    Hi

    Thanks for the replys

The engines in W. orland 95963 CA and going to Ottawa 66067 KS

It's a complete 1955 Chevy 261, it's a sound running engine that looks pretty clean. I was planning on getting it wrapped and strapped onto a pallet

If anyone wants to see pics to gauge its size etc let me know your email

Seems you have to be an account holder at FedEx to send items of this size so I can't get a quote easily

You might check with a local auto dismantler. Many use an intranet to source parts not in their inventory. We recently received a used engine (we are located across the river from Louisville, KY) shipped out of Houston Texas. Plastic wrapped, strapped to a pallet. Transportation included in price of engine. Since auto parts recyclers do this day-in day-out, they know how to prepare the item for proper shipping and likely would be very cost effective. lucas

Engineshipping is a broker and fills empty spaces in trucks wether it be a freight comp or Fedex, Had them ship a Mustang II funnycar body coast to coast for only $750, everybody else wanted $2000. Again call them direct.
Just a note the eaiser it is for the freight comp to do the cheaper it is, crated or on a pallet- loading dock or forklift at both ends really helps

So. new, unused, filled with oil yet? I'll just say that if you ended up with Bill (see post #7), you could not experience a cleaner, safer delivery.
