Event Coverage No Rodder's Journal Revival in 2015???!!!

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by lothiandon1940, Mar 25, 2015.

  1. No Rodder's Journal Revival in 2015??!!!.......The rumors are rampant that one of the best events to take place on the East Coast will not happen this year. Does anyone know what's up? No one seems to know the details and I can only hope that the rumors aren't true.

  3. Hope we can get some clarification from some of the principals. This has been such a great event for 3 years now. Sure hope it doesn't go away.

  4. Perhaps "mentioning" ("tagging") HAMBers that are also TRJ staffers will bring this thread to their attention ...

I hope this is not true. One of the best shows here on the right coast.

I do not know exactly all the reasons, but i do know that the show will not happen this year. That information came from Ray Bartlett at the hot rod garage. I too enjoyed that show. It was a nice well planned event.

That's a real bummer. I was hoping to make it this year. For whatever reason I always have things going on this weekend and haven't been able to make it. Last year was my best friend's wedding. This makes it an easier decision to hit Jalopyrama, which is always a great show, in the area.

Takes a lot of money to put on a show as good as that one in a venue like that.

The Revival is such a great gathering. However the rent for Pimlico has to be substantial. I wonder did enough folks attend and pay at the door? Also even though TRJ is the finest are enough buying it in this digital age? TEB

I've already got a room for the traditional weekend and I'm keeping it! I'm hoping 'ol Steve will find us a cow pasture or something in that area to park the cars and take pictures. He has a lot of connections in that neck of the woods and hopefully at least one of them will yield us a spot to park when we want to. The rest of the meet doesn't happen at Pamlico anyway and the food wagons and portapotties could be relocated to about anywhere and I think we'd be just fine.
I've got so much faith that TRJ will come through with a good alternative in the same area that I've already paid for the room for all three nights... and, yes, I can get a refund... at least they told me so!
Good luck, Steve. I've got faith in you and your many pals in the Baltimore area.
Somebody has a big pasture or lawn somewhere.
    Keep lookin'!

^^So, Don, how big is your yard? S'pose your neighbor joined in?
All kidding aside, I prefer to hold out and hope... and hopefully ENCOURAGE our TRJ pals to keep working to find a solution while letting them know just how much we want to continue the Revival... wherever they can locate it. Seriously, everything but Pimlico itself was easily portable, ie, relocatable to about anywhere that would hold the cars. The Pimlico ambiance is nice but far from essential in my view... I go to see your car, Don!

I prefer to hold out hope as well. If it is just because of Pimlico costing too much, I am sure there are other places that could hold that many cars. My favorite parts were Fells Point and the cruise anyway, although I did love the low light photo session part as well - especially year 1.

  21. The word I got was that the Pimlico property changed hands and the new owners have no interest in leasing it out for a car show. Don't know what other factors may be involved. I'm with you guys in that I hope that the event can continue. It was a pretty special affair and your photography made it all that much better, Dan.

Thanks Don and thanks Lyle for the reason. I am actually working on a book with highlight images from all 3 years. I am not sure if it will be worth doing or not, but I have started one.

  23. .........Good luck with that project, Dan. It might even be more significant if there never is another RJ Revival.

I'll readily admit that I don't know photography on any level that might remotely compare to Dazzlin' Dan but I still think that low light stuff is probably doable on something besides Pimlico grass.
Come on fellows; let's find a cow pasture (they still have them around Baltimore don't they?), a really big yard, or another similar venue. There has to be something creative available. Smithfield, VA won't hold it all... and it is too far from Fell's Point! Don, about your yard...

Saw a lot of open space on the cruise to Havre de' Grace & back!! Isn't there a facility in or around Timmonium that host a show each year???

I have a suggestion for the TRJ Revival. Since Steve Coonan is based on the LEFT coast, and the Revival is held on the RIGHT coast, why not have '15 in a neutral location halfway between the two coasts, like AUSTIN, TEXAS. Oh, my GOD, that is a great idea. Bunches of the Cal. boys are attending the LONESTAR ROUNDUP this April in Austin, so why not? This way, the two coasts will drive equal distances to a really great venue. P.S. Please, no hatemail.

Probably been a long time since anyone thought of Austin as "neutral". :)
