I know many of you dislike HOT ROD magazine. But the Power Tour needs more traditional rods and customs. There are too many band new muscle cars on the tour. I am going in my 62 Rambler SW as pictured in my avitar. Nick
Power Tour should have 2 divisions, one for new cars and one for Hot Rods! ...anybody should be able to drive a new Camaro, Challenger or Vette anywhere. Last summer my friend from Maryland just drove his g***er style 38 Chevy coupe from Maryland to the Black Hills and back over 7000 miles without a problem, now that's cool!
I dont dislike Hot Rod mag, since I just got a new subscription for a year, what I dont like about magazines is as soon as you subscribe, they start sending you junk mail about extensions and ****. I've received maybe one issue and got mail today asking for an extended subscription. I jump from mag to mag. Regarding the power tour, it does seem to be full of new muscle. Yeah, they run 11 second quarters, or faster, with the air on and the stereo blasting, dont blow the tires off because of traction control, but they all look the same, just different graphics. I cant even tell the difference between the last 5 years of Mustangs, guess Im not paying close attention. I think your Rambler would be an awesome power tour car, different, unique, and you probably got some sweat time invested. I guess making a 1000 + mile trip in a new muscle car would be fun, but to me, making the trip in something you built, or even someone else built, thats not a store bought hot rod, says something. I know Ford, Chevy and Dodge can build a car that will make the trip, but making a 1000 + mile trip in an old car is a big deal. Good Luck on the Power Tour, you'll have fun, and there absolutely won't be 50 cars lke yours rolling down the interstate.
My partner in the car and I did the PT in the Rambler in 2012, 8 months after buying the car. 4500 miles Denver to Detroit to Dallas to Denver. We got 24 mpg and used 26 quarts of oil. LOL We have rebuilt the engine with 60 over pistons and a hotter cam from Elgin. We will have it on the road in about 2 weeks. Nick
I am doing it but taking my 1970 International Travelall if I get it done. That way 4 of us can travel all week wit room.
Back when it started and there were only a few hundred cars it was really high on my list but it has gotten so big and with so many stock late models it's not much different than driving down an LA freeway at rush hour.
Well we are either taking my buddy's bad*** 55 t-bird or what we took last year which is my 53 Chevy! We had a blast in it!! Met some cool people seem some really cool places(house on the rock)
its not all about new muscle. the power tour is about your experience. my son and i went a few years back. we didn't take the freeway much. we went our own way at our own pace. we traveled with a group of mopar guys. we showed up at the next spot with minutes to spare for clocking in. we stopped at all kinds of mopar specific places. if all you want to do is race from stop to stop you will see a lot of newer stuff. if you want a adventure and want to go off the beaten path its there for you also. there is always a large variety of cars that go on the tour mixed with the locals at each stop. the tour is not a bumper to bumper parade of cars. we had a great time when we went.
You can do the same thing any day in this country. There is a lot to see and a lot of road.I did power tour but after two days we took of on our own adventure.
