That is not quite the right word for Austin. Would halfway or in-between work better? I didn't intend to start a cultural or alternative-existence war on the "weird" streets of Austin. I get the feeling you have been there. "Neutral" is definitely not the correct word here. Ya got me.

Well, Austin is safely away from hurricanes and tsunamis on the East coast, and earthquakes, mudslides, wildfires, and water shortages on the West coast. That is all I can offer. Don't know where Fell's Point is, and I don't like to go anywhere I can't pronounce the town's name. Have de what ? Come on, Al. We want you rodders to come to Texas !

^^^Uh... given the extremely low clearances observed on a good number of the cars and trucks at past Revivals; I suspect we might want to take cow pastures off the list of acceptable venues.:D No offense, Gary; in fact I thought your offer was very gracious but a bit far from the rest of the event components which I'm hoping will remain as core items. Same Revival, same general location, same tent... just on different gr*** that Pimlico.
Somebody save us... we might all go to hades without at least an annual Revival!! Where is Preacher Steve?

  8. It's official - just got this from TRJ:

    4th Annual TRJ Revival Postponed

As some of you may have already heard, we will not be hosting The Rodder’s Journal Revival in 2015. We had an excellent three-year run in Baltimore, and we would love to return soon. Unfortunately a variety of challenges have presented themselves, ranging from securing sufficient hotel room blocks to logistical hurdles with our venue, and we’ve decided to take a year off rather than host an event that may not be up to our standards.

We waited until now to make this announcement because we wanted to try to resolve the issues we’ve encountered. But it’s become increasingly clear that we won’t be able to do that in time for the 2015 event. With any luck, though, we’ll be back with an even better event before too long.

In the meantime, we wanted to thank each of you who attended any of the first three TRJ Revivals. A car show is only as good as the cars and people who attend and it is the Rodder’s Journal readers who made the show a success.

As we said when we first launched the show, our intention was to throw a party where hot rodders from all over could get together and enjoy seeing, hearing, and driving these old cars we love so much. Thinking back over the excellent times we’ve had, the friends we’ve reconnected with, and the new pals we’ve made, we believe we accomplished our goals.

Stay tuned for more news about what’s going on at The Rodder’s Journal. Although we won’t be hosting the Revival this year, there’s still a lot of cool stuff in the works.

    Cheers!
Your friends at The Rodder’s Journal

I know what you mean, Al. I wouldn't mind cruising to Maryland or Virginia for an event. My bud and I just returned from Connecticut where he bought a really nice '32 5-W coupe. Don't remember the city or the seller's name, but the car was ready to show. All steel Henry 5-W with Ford drive train, SBF with 2-fours, 9"rear, almost candy red. On the way back, we saw some of the most beautiful country in the U.S. Texas isn't known for its mountains, even with the Rockies in far west Texas. You boys have some really fine cars on the East coast, but we only see them in mags or on the HAMB. I would like to meet Thomas McGinnity, the picture-taker and member of the Westchester County StreetRods in New York. I met that crazy ****er Gary Cisco who had a T with IFS in Memphis in '75. That bunch seems to really rock. I have to say good luck with whatever location you find for your runs. Hope to meet you guys someday and tip a few.

As cool as the rides are that you East coasters build, you will find some venue that will work.

Yeah, I got the same e-mail, I suspect they sent it out to all the subscribers, although I'd written to them and asked them to comment here. Hope they find another way to do it.

They could use the Timonium fairgrounds it's a huge place. Also there is many historical spots in Monkton. Or as I call it the valley. You think Baltimore you think city but there is alot of country and open space just north of baltimore

Well, I got the news via email as well. I'm thinking of just going anyway. There should be plenty of room to park at Fell's Point and I'll hopefully get to go to Hav de Grace finally as I missed it last year because of needed car repairs but met some great people that saved my ****. They will probably be working so I could see them again. Of course, there won't be much variety... heck, it will just be me! I can stay home and look at my own car. Maybe I need to look into cancelling my room after all.:(

You guys could just chill at the hotel parking lot? Most of the fun I have at multi day events is the fun at the hotel parking lots...

swing by hobby lobby for some small trophies and award your own best hot rod and custom awards. Worst case your the only one in the parking lot and you win them all!

I just wanted to address a couple of issues regarding the cancelation of this year’s Rodder’s Journal Revival. First, it is not true that the event has lost money all three years. We came close to breaking even the first year and by the third year the event did turn a small profit. Also, while it is true that the management of Pimlico has changed it is not true that that we have not been invited back. Both the old management and the new team at Pimlico have treated us very well and we may indeed work with them in the future.

With this being the case you may ask why we are not going forward with the event in 2015. As we stated in our email newsletter, the major reasons for not doing the show this year center around the changes at the venue and hotel room blocks. There wasn’t one thing that led us to this decision, but there were a bunch of small things that have become issues. Our event has grown at the same time that Pimlico has been reinvigorated as a horse boarding and training facility. We felt that there was a chance that these two things could possibly be at odds with our needs for the Revival. This is certainly not a complaint about the Pimlico facility or management. Maryland in general and Pimlico in particular have a rich horse-racing legacy that goes back literally centuries and Pimlico is first and foremost a horse racing track as it should be.

We worked to overcome potential pitfalls with the venue, hotel accommodations, etcetera, but they were significant enough that we began to question whether we could absolutely be certain that we could put on a show that was up to the standards that we had set and more importantly to meet the expectations of those who had attended the first three Revivals. We also didn’t want to take the chance of disappointing those who would attend for the first time based on what they had seen or read. We feel that if someone drives a rod or custom a great distance at a considerable cost that we have a responsibility to provide the best show that we can.

We certainly could put on an event this year, but when we began to seriously doubt that we could live up to the standard set by the first three Revivals we decided we would take a break and regroup. We hope to be back in the not to distant future with a bigger and better Revival that builds on what was created the first three years.

We are a small quirky publishing company with limited resources and just felt that taking a slow sure approach and postponing this year’s event was better than taking a chance the fourth annual Rodder’s Journal Revival wouldn’t be as good as the first three.

We have received quite a few emails and phone calls regarding this (and we have been following this thread). We want to thank everyone that participated in the first three events for helping us make this car show what it was. But there really isn’t much more to the story than that.

We’ll keep everyone posted on our plans for the future.

    Thanks,
    Steve ****an

When you produce a first cl*** publication like TRJ, you are also wise enough to know when to hold back on an event.
Steve ****an has brought the Hot Rod and Custom community the finest periodical, and event I have ever seen
I have every issue of TRJ and only wish I had attended the Revivals.
I am sure that when Steve is able to get all the "ducks" in a row he will revive the Revival. If it cannot be done properly then it will have to wait.
Thank you Steve for your efforts on all fronts, and hope to meet you at the next revival!
