I know this sounds pretty stupid, but I've got some logistics to work out. I'll be picking up a body and transporting it a short distance. I haven't had a chance yet to measure the dimensions. Wondering if anyone here has done this.
Two years ago I gave my buddy in Fla a 40 coupe body, It fit in a 91 Ford Pickup (backwards) and he took it 1000 Miles south. The model A should fit with no problem in an 8' bed.
ive hauled many car bodies in a jap pickup when they dont fot onside i put 2 2x6 across then tie em on
A 32 Ford 5W coupe will fit in a full size Chevrolet Silverado pickup......and a Model A is smaller.....so YES.....
Yes it will fit. I hauled a 28 coupe body and fenders I was transporting to the new owner in my 52 Chev pickup many years ago. Had a guy pull up to me after I exited the freeway for gas and he had a fender that had blown out of the body somewhere back down the road! I couldn't believe it. Must have been a car guy. Thanked him profusely and carried on. Note to self: strap items more securely.
yes, i have seen this done many times. i would suggest having something that the body can slide on inside the bed, it makes it loading it a breeze.
I believe he knowes what he is talking about. I tryed the same thing once with an extended cab. No go.
A word of caution. I hauled my coupe body for 200 miles in a pickup. There was no top insert just an open hole in the top. When I got home I discovered the rear edge of the top had drummed up and down in the air and that a tear in the metal had developed. Both sides up to the radiued area where the metal curves down. It was pretty ugly and I was really pissed at myself for not noticing until too late. Maybe that's why the big rig trucker was honking at me?
Yeah, it'll fit, but I find them much easier to load and unload if you turn the body sideways (90 degrees to the truck) and sit it on top of the bed rails. Only hangs off each side a few inches, and easy to tie down. Easier on your back and fingers this way, too.
If the body has some loose or flimsy parts that may get lost or damaged on a long distance run, call a local boat shop and see if they can shrink wrap it for you. We've shrink wrapped some pretty wierd stuff for people at our place. The cost is fairly minimal because on small items we can use the leftover scraps from the end of a roll.
Just to add a bit just in case someone was needing to know, I put a stock Model A frame, complete with running board brackets, in a short body Astro Van and closed the doors. Ya have to put it in diagonally and tuck one of the frame horns under the accelerator pedal to do it though.... and watch the headliner with the brackets! I put a '28 Model A cowl, firewall to door hinges in my MGB GT. They just aren't very big.
I had my T coupe in the bed of my Colorado. Just put boards across the board and set it on the boards.
Here'a an A chassis in the bed of my truck- I wish it would have had a body when I got it! Basically I unbolted the front spring and wishbone and we picked it up with an engine hoist and loaded it in the back of the truck.
Anything will fit, if you want it bad enough. I was able to fit a complete A chassis with running gear in the back of my import truck, with a 5' bed. Fit being a relative term, of course. Heck, I even unloaded it by myself It is more a matter of will power that transportation. Edit - After feeling proud of myself, for telling of such success over the laws of time and space, I realized that I am only using the rear crossmember and frame horns from the above mentioned frame. I now admit to being an idiot. But, your coupe should fit nicely in a full size pick up.
Yep" Slammed 1 31 Coupe into a 70c10 Longhorn back in 95, Pulled it down to LA from El Cajon" Dang if i remember that the old street name was Model A Vally Pass or something" Guy had a Yard full of Model A Bones"
