Now with the motor and ****** in place I may not have room for exhaust through the frame and out the back like my other 32's. Like to think about how I'd run it otherwise

    Had the same problem.
I always liked the look of just a couple straight pipes tucked up to the frame, angled out toward the rear wheels like i've seen on some 40's era rods...
So i did something similar. Not really side exit, but close.
I used baffles instead of mufflers which took a bit of tuning to hush it up enough to drive any length, but it worked and was simple. image.jpg image.jpg

Mine are similar to Tony's, they start under the frame at the front and angle out at the back.
Mine are capped and the exhaust still goes out the back.
I might be concerned about exhaust fumes if they were used as the exhaust system.

I wanted to be sure fumes were out from under the car if caught in traffic, so after the '36 Ford drive shaft section of the exhaust system (which contain baffles), I've got a sharp outward turn.

I've never had a problem with fumes in the car on mine, sitting idle or driving.....unless you sit for 10 minutes in one place.
    Maybe i'm just getting lucky...

Danny: Is this a current pic of John Collin's car? IF so, did he switch out the merc steelies for the 5 spoke wheels?

    Dan,
Great car but the exhaust IMO is too high tech for my build. Thanks though.

That's about the only thing I would change on the car except the name on the ***le.

Today a nice set of vulcanized running boards are to expensive to cut up but John was building hot rods when I was a kid.

As I recall John has owned this coupe since the early 60's. HRP

John had that car when I first met him in Richmond Indiana in @ '73. He also had a killer 33-34 sedan.

Tim,he still has the 4 door sedan and I have seen photos but the car is in storage,,he says he hopes to redo the car in the next few years,,he also has/had a mint 40 Ford coupe that got crushed in a storm by a huge pine tree.:(

I'm sure I don't have to tell you but John is one of the nicest and most intelligent guys I have ever had the pleasure to met. HRP

John's car was in a four car feature in R&C back in the 70's. all the cars were '32 coupes. One three window in the group. I have the mag but sure of the date, Tim

  18. missysdad1 is correct. The pipes are 36 Ford drive shafts.

The exhaust on my coupe exits through the frame right in front of the rear tire.

Yes, once you cut the drive shaft in half you have two long megaphones with heavy wall, so they sound very nice!

Here's my current A coupe project that had the same problem. It's on pinched '32 rails so it really tight underneath. I also went with the 35-36 drive-shaft under the rail. I originally wasn't going to run it out back but I had enough room so I plumed in a pair of small Brockman Mellotones. I have another coupe with a similar exhaust that ends just in front of the rear wheel...no exhaust smell at all.

Some nice work there! I love the exhaust going over the rear it always makes it look finished. Love to see it finished.

I used full length 36 tubes on mine, just cut the taper off one side. I liked the look better.

Rex Rogers new 32 thread from today:

    http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/glenns-32-brookville-project.970042/

He is not using Ford driveshafts, but this is close to the way it could be done, with using two Ford driveshafts to get the longer look.

His build has an underbody view of the exhaust pipes running up over the P&J rear ladder bars, but the car sits higher in the rear, than yours. You may not have enough room over the bars

If you can't run the exhaust over the P&J bars in the same place that Rex did; I'd mock up some s**** to see where the shorter "half driveshaft" side pipes will end up.

Then the exhaust might be able to find a better way around the ladder bars, as you will be a lot further forward.
